Lyrica for atypical TM

I am finishing my week of no medication for my TN after tapering off the Trileptal, and my neuro-opthalmalogist wants to start me on Lyrica.  I am very concerned about gaining weight on it (if my insurance company even approves it.)  I have been very carefully following WW and have lost 35 pounds since August.  The Lyrica site says something like 10-16% of people do gain, so I wonder if board members have been experiencing this.  I was taking Trileptal during nearly all the time I have been losing the weight.

I have my annual MS specialist nurse-practitioner appointment tomorrow, so I'll ask him about it, too.  Thanks.

My doctor prescribed Zanaflex for my TN (and a few other symptoms) --- she never really told me it was atypical TN, she just said that it was a nerve issue that seems to go with my ear and stabbing pains I've had in my face (the stabbing pain was more like someone sticking me with a very small needle.)  I figured out that she thinks it's atypical TN after she gave me JUST ENOUGH information. lol ~

Zanaflex doesn't have that side affect but it does make me very loopy at times. I usually take it at night or if I notice an increase in symptoms. Is your pain constant or does it increase from day to day? My pain is intermittent now after 11 months of constant pain. Maybe you can ask about Zanaflex for treating your atypical TN.

Yes here is a Lyrica user who changed from Gabapentin which initially made me put on 14 pounds which I then worked very hard to lose. I have been on Lyrica since the summer and the weight is creeping up and I have put on another 7lbs...but think this may also have something to do with Christmas.

I think that many drugs can affect our weight and that it is important to be aware of this, keep exercising when possible and watch your diet. I find the moment I take my eye off the ball and slip into bad habits ..like having the odd biscuit for instance the weight can go back on very quickly. So healthy eating starts again tomorrow!!!!
