MRI Report

Hi All,
I have abolutely no idea what my MRI report means.. Can anyone help please...

Here is the findings..

Configuration of the ventricles, silci and basal cistern is normal for a patient's age. Comparison is made to the most recent MRI from 17/06/2011.

Note is made of small foci of T2/Flair hyperintensity (at least 10) in the supretentorial white matter in predominately deep white matter distribution but few subcortical white matter lesions are seen. There is also prominent white matter lesion involving the posterior left parietal lobe which appears stable when compared to previous examination.

Suggestion of new focus of T2 Flair hyperintensity in the right frontal lobe. Linear focus of T2/Flair hyperintensity in the right coronal radiata appears prominent when compared to previous examination. Two other new foci are also seen in the superior aspect of the right corona radiata. Right frontal lobe subcortical matter also appears new since previous examination.

There is focus of hyperintenisty in the pre central gyrus on the left which appears to be stable compared to previous examination. Unfortunately the stufy was performed as a non contrast examination.

In the posterior fossa there is a focus of T2 hyperintense/Flair hyperintense lesion in the inferior right cerebellar hemisphere. New since previous examination. Two small foci in both cerebellar hemisphere are stable.

The optic nerves appear symmetric. No restrictive diffusion to suggest of acute infarction. No evidence of haemosiderin staining on the suspectibility weighted images. MR angiogram shows normal calibre anterior and posterior circulation with no irregularity of the vessel wall. There is no focal stenosis or aneurysm formation.

Since you had an MRI 2 years ago, the lack of contrast MRI is not as big a problem. You clearly have both old and new lesions. Contrast will differentiate between old and new lesions in a single MRI. Having lesions of at least 2 different ages is part of the MS diagnosis.

As aspentoo asked, what were the radiologists Impressions. It's usually a paragraph towards the end of the report. What other tests have you had, blood work? LP?

It's unfortunate that no contrast was used since it appears that you have new lesions.  Do you have new symptoms as well?  What is your age?  T2 hyperintensities can be age-related -- how long since your last MRI?

What were the impressions on the report?
