MRI machines

What type of machines detected your lesions?  My MRI was taken with a 1.5T and am curious what strength others have had that lead to their diagnosis.  What strength are the MS Specialists using for detection??

Thanks!

Wow I wish I would have known this about the type of MRI machine.. I was put in a Mobile MRI they had due to someone else already being in the larger machine.. I have no idea what type it was but Im guessing now Im gonna need to have them redone..Its kinda sad.. I had 3 in one day...All on the mobile and all of my results were clean...yet they were highly suspicious of MS. Im very curious to find out now what that machine is capable of. And if they will redo them ,3 MRIs on a mobile machine that most likely wont even show MS... Done in one day on my dollar and all negative results for lesions or even trapped nerves. Wow :(

Kyle,

Thanks!   I will wait and see what my report says then.  I just had the MRI yesterday morning.  I am thinking that since I haven't heard anything yet, that they must not have found anything very bad on there....

Hi Freesiagirl

The easiest way is to ask the imaging center. It is also often stated in the Radiology report. The report will describe the type of machine used somewhere in the beginning.

I was diagnosed on a 1.5T machine.  There is another thing to consider besides the software that my MS specialist mentioned to me--the thickness of the slices.  I had 10 more spots showed up on the last 1.5T last year and my neurologist was considering a new MS treatment and saying that the old one was "failing".  The MS specialist explained that these new spots were tiny and nonspecific and were probably missed on the previous MRI because the thickness of too thick on previous MRI to catch something this small.

Your MRI--whether it be on a 1.5T or 3T machine should be done with MS protocol with thin slices... otherwise lesions could be missed.  This is super important.

1.5T showed lesions on my brain stem and cervical spine.  Though none were evident on a scan of my thoracic spine, my neuro says there's at least one in that area as well.

Hi Tara and welcome to the forum. I don't believe we have "met" yet.

My MS was diagnosed on a closed  1.5 Telsa MRI machine. However, the strength of the machine isn't the only factor. The software used to obtain the MRI cuts is just as important.

I am lucky enough to have most of my MRIs taken on a 1.5t but it has the best software in the area ,including the academic centers. It is at my MS Center and the director is always upgrading the software to latest and most discerning software available.

No, in limbo land. My MRI didn't show any lesions but I've been tested for EVERYTHING else under the sun...

There are often debates on our forum about that.  Mine were dx on a 1.5 but many swear by a 3

Have you been Dx'd?
