MRI results. Confused

Hello, I posted a question recently about my neuro not wanting to order an Mri because he felt it was a waste of money and was only going to show that I had not ben taking any DMD'S since June of last yr.

Let me recap just a little. I finally convinced him to order one b/c I wanted it. Because I wanted to see what was going on in my brain. But the date for the MRI was going to be a month away (April). I left the office got home nd found a letter stating that the Mri facility was trying to reach me concerning anorder for an MRI my Pcp had ordered. I called the facility and they were able to take me Monday of the following wk.

Now. I got the results back compared to the MRI i had in 2010(with the same symptoms) there were no changes and no activity going onright now. Great! But  the weird part is that it looked as if I had a sinus infection so my PCV ordered some antibiotics and steroids for the inflamation& infection.

The problem with that is that I have no symptoms of a sinus infection. the dizziness and nausea and mild hyperacusis have been going on for 3 1/2 wks. you would think that in that much timeI would know if I had a sinus infection because  I've had them before.

I called my Pcp b/c I had some questions about the meds. She wasn't in so I spoke with her nurse. She was puzzled because I told her I did not feel bad(sinus infection bad) nor did I have the constant post nasal drip, headaches& sinus pressure that comes along with that. She was puzzled. She said that well maybe it's something that just snuck up on you because you tend to deal with allergies anyway and you just didn't catch it.

I asked her if you could have a sinus infection w/o being symptomatic. She just laughed and said apparently so.

Now I could have a sinus infection at this point but I don't believe that I've had one for the last 3 1/2 wks.

Anyway can I get some feedback; can you have an excacerbation or a flare w/o it showing on an MRI?

What would you do?
Thanks

Hello sllowe,
Unfortunately I do have symptoms of a flair which is dizziness, nausea and hyperacusis. these were the same symptoms I had and 2010 and found I was in a flair.

I agree I think my PCP is being proactive with the sinus thing. I went through the same thing in 2010 w/antibiotics and it didn't help the dizziness or the hearing thing(hyperacusis). Went on for about 6 months .Had to have  2 rounds of IV steroids.

I think I will probably do the other MRI that my neuro ordered for next month if this continues.

Thanks for your reply,
Miracle

Hi Miracle,

Yup - sure can can have a flair and it not show on MRI.  However, if you have no symptoms from a flair then I'd not give it another thought.

Also, I'm surprised to hear of the order of antibiotics for a symptomless infection of the sinuses, but I'm no doctor. Maybe they are just being proactive with you :)
There are those of us who have had no signs of urinary tract infection, but had one - So, in this regard, I see no harm in taking the meds.

Congratulations of your no-change in imaging! This is great news :)

I went to the doctor twice with no results from medications,
upon receiving the written report from the MRI, which indicated
that I had a sinus infection and where!, I took this to the doctor
and obtained the correct medication to get rid of it!

side benefit of MRI I guess and yes you can have a sinus
infection and not know it.
