I got MRI report from 2003. It says that I have hyperintensities on each side of the brain?? What does that mean?

It means that 6 years ago you had white spots or lesions on your brain on both sides.  Hyperintensities are areas that show up brighter and indicate areas of damage.  It would have been nice if the report told us how many white spots, how big they were and where they were located.

Do you have a comparison of that MRI with any newer ones?  If not please ask your neurologist to do this comparison or ask the neuroradiologist to do it.  What we would want to know is whether the lesions have been absolute static and unchanged or if there have been any lesions that have disappeared (healed) or if there are new ones now.  If you have already told us this, I apologize.
