MRI scheduled for MS

Hi there! I have an MRI scheduled for next week to test for possible MS. I don't think I have enough symptoms to point to MS, but apparently my doctor does! The symptoms my doctor knows about are:
- weakness and pain in right fingers, wrist and arm. Seems like carpal tunnel but it is in my pinky as well and two doctors both say it seems to be coming from my neck (I pass the carpal tunnel tests they did on me)
- tingling in both feet that creeps up lower legs at time. Has moved to my right butt as well and is overall worse on right side.
Symptoms my doctor doesn't know about (because I didn't think much of it)
- 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my son every time I would wake up for about 2 months I would have blurry vision in my right eye up to a half hour. This happened again a few months ago but would happen at random times during the day. I went to the we doctor and they said dry eyes. I was also driving the other day and was at a stop light and felt like the road was being pulled away, felt nauseous. This has not happened again since.
- random "zaps" of pain in big toes, legs, back. Not all the time, just randomly.

Sorry this is long! I was just very surprised when I got a call for a full spine and brain MRI. I have no balance issues it seems. Have any of you been diagnosed with few symptoms?

Thank you all for the thoughts and well wishes! My MRI was rescheduled to tomorrow morning w/ neuro consult still on Friday. 3 more days. The ringing in my ears keeps getting louder.

Still praying for you Linda for peace in your heart and mind while you wait for your answers.  Be sure and keep us all updated and I will do the same.

Thinking about you Courtney! The wait really is the worse, isn't it. Now the tingling in my feet is a little better but my left hand started today, just pinky and ring finger. I don't know what's going on. Thank goodness we'll have some answers soon!

My heart goes out to you Linda and I am praying you receive the answers you need!!

I am scheduled for my MRI on Monday with a follow up with my neuro on Friday the 12th to discuss the results. 7 More Days. It's a lifetime. My symptoms include dizziness for about the past 10 months, lots of pain in my shoulder with pain, numbness and tingling going down my arm to my fingers (I messed up my shoulder in a wreck about 6 yrs ago and attributed it to that so did not think anything of it), fatigue, slurred words (sporadic), forgetfulness, blurry vision (I just catch myself not focusing), etc. The neuro did confirm I do not have vertigo, which I was counting on as reason for my dizziness. My heart and prayers go out to all of you affected by this disease. Now comes the waiting game.

7 Days.

PS: I have decided that if I do have MS, it will be my goal to ride in the BP MS 150 from Houston to Austin this year!! #iwillfight #fightlikeagirl

Hoping that you are able to get timely answers as well, Courtney.  It can be quite a process ... there are a lot of  mimics and sometimes the answers aren't immediate, unfortunately.

Yes I will look into that, thank you! My middle finger and index finger are the worst. This all started when I was temporarily on some anti-thyroid medication when I all of a sudden went hyperthyroid (had hashitoxicosis).

aspentoo has a solid point and one to investigate as a possible issue. She's a credible source as well as many others here. ;)

You might want to take a look at cubital tunnel syndrome.  That one affects the pinky, ring finger and if very bad the middle finger as well, and results from pressure on the ulnar nerve.  Totally trashes your grip and causes pain up your arm as well.

I have a great deal of trouble with cubital tunnel issues, strictly because I have right side weakness and tend to brace my arm with my elbow.  The ulnar nerve lies very close to the elbow joint.

Cubital tunnel syndrome can stand on it's own, or be caused by weakness. Or, as your doctors have suggested, it could be originating from your neck.

Just an idea, and I hope you are able to get some answers :).

So sorry you are experiencing these symptoms. Many of us know all too well the feeling of limbo. Fortunately, you are soon to have both MRIS for investigating further which is a positive.

Please let us know the results and best of luck to you.

Hugs

Yes, very true! So confusing, I have a hard time making a fist with my right hand which seems like carpal tunnel but since it's in my pinky finger as well  and I pass the tests my doctors don't think it's that. I definitely am lucky that they are doing an MRI! It's just all so confusing because my symptoms don't match anything. We'll see what next week brings I suppose!

The neurologist probably saw something on the neurological exam that is reflexes and such. Just because the suspect does not mean you have it. There have been so many things they thought I had over the years which were not serious in the end. With MRIs and CT scans they can look at things where in the past exploritory surgery was the only way to tell. It is good you have a doctor who will check. Most of us have the opposite problem a doctor who will not do tests. Let us hope for the best.

Thanks Cheryl! It will be good to finally have some answers either way. My arm has been like this (although moving up the arm more) for 9 months now

I feel your pain. While the intensity has varied, I'm 5 months into it without relief, too. My right hand/arm is the worst! I've learned to do many things left-handed now.

I hope you get answers! It is so frustrating to not know.

Hi Linda1616 - While I had 2 rounds of double vision stemming from cranial 6th nerve palsy prior to my Dx last fall, my presenting symptoms that lead to my diagnosis were initially thought to be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) on my right side. Like you, however, the problems moved to other non-CTS fingers and eventually impacted most of the right side of my body in some way from my ear down to my toes. Ugh. Everyone was thinking pinched nerve, degenerative disc disease (runs in my family), or something else with my spine.

All of these symptoms certainly could have come from other problems, so there is absolutely no need to assume that your result will be the same as mine. The spine MRI will help to rule in or out other issues, too, so I am glad you are having one done.

Best of luck to you! Let us know what you learn.
