MS Specialist in Seattle area

We will be relocating to the Seattle area in mid-february, and I will need to find a specialist there. In research, I saw that Swedish has an MS clinic there. Does anyone have any experience with that clinic? Any other recommendations?

Thanks-Kristen

You are going more rural. I'll come visit you - Woodinville has some great winery's...oh and the famous Mac n Jacks Brewery. Right down the road is Redmond Town Center. My hubby works about 10 minutes from there. We have talked about moving there ourselves. I wish you much luck but I don't think you will need it. :)

Thanks for all the Seattle info. I'm flying in on Friday and have a list of about 12 houses to look at over the weekend. Our top 2 choices are in North Bend and Woodinville. I know those areas are a little bit further out, but I love the pictures of the houses that I have seen, so as long as it doesn't take me 20 minutes to get to a grocery store, that is where we most likely will end up.  Can't wait to see how many potty stops I'll have to make along the way!! Hahhaha!  Wish us luck!

Silly phone!

Corrections: Covington (city mentioned above)

Oh - we were married in Kirkland, one of my MOST favorite towns in our area. :) Also, check out Woodinville and Redmond if you are looking at Issaquah, Sammamish areas.

I live in South Hill Puyallup - another good school district but a drive for you. It sort of depends on the pricing and atmosphere you seek. PM if you would like more details.

I live about 45 minutes away from Seattle.

With your husband working downtown,  there is the Sounder which is a light rail system that can be used and would make his commute a little easier. I don't think it saves money or much time but it would allow him the opportunity to use his time differently (which can be valuable for those working in a building like that. ;)

My husband works in Redmond (Microsoft and Techland) - he spends nearly three hours a day driving, (He loves me that much! lol)

You will have a commute no matter where you live and work for the quality positions you speak of. If look to live in the areas you mentioned. I happen to really like the Convington area. It would put you in the south King County area but more rural. He'd have an ok commute or be able to catch the Sounder. You would have access to about 5 area hospitals (including some of the newer clinics like mine in Issaquah.) Covington and Issaquah are sister towns. Both beautiful and quaint.

I enjoy my 50 minute commute. It takes me THAT long to go 17 miles. I travel back roads, listen to music and drink my Big Foot Java (better than Starbucks!) I like to support the smaller local companies but I'm always search for Starbucks when traveling,

This is a beautiful State. I've traveled a over and it, along with Colorado, are my favorites. Lots of natural beauty and wonders. Really!

PM me if you need anything. I am also in the banking industry (mortgage) and have family in the medical community. :)

Hi!

Dr. Mariko Kita is an MS neurologist.  She is with Virginia Mason in Seattle, and I've been told by both the Rebif and the Copaxone nurse, that she is one of the best in the country.

I was also told great things about Dr. Jung @ Swedish, by both Sidesteps and the Copaxone nurse.

Welcome to the area!  I live about fifteen minutes across the bridge from Seattle.

Yes...traffic here is not fun. Add too much caffeine with constant grey skies and rain, equals a not so pleasant commute. It's common tho.

I live south of Seattle. We are getting relocated in June for the Army. We put San Diego as our #2 choice. So I guess I'm jumping from the frying pan into the fire in regards to traffic, huh??

Thanks Lu! I have heard the same thing about the traffic. Hopefully the hype is worse. Not looking forward to the gray rainy days..I've been a desert dweller WAY too long!

How great to get to the Pacific Northwest - I would love to have a reason to move out there but all the family is here in Ohio.   The commute for everybody in Seattle is lengthy from what I understand.  There are a lot more people than there are roads to handle all the commuters.

Good luck with al lthe doctor switching - that can be stressful on its own.

Hubby's office is downtown Seattle (if I said Wells Fargo building would that mean anything?) He's working on the SR99 tunnel. I'm a RN, but won't be looking for work for at least a couple of months, so the main concern is drive time for hubby. 30-45 minute commute??

Thanks, I will look into Dr. Jung as well.

Now OT..any recommendation on areas/school districts to look at? We will be househunting next weekend, and right now are focusing on Issaquah/Sammamish/Bellevue areas. Any other areas we should look into?

Thanks-Kristen

I see Dr. Lily Jung put of Swedish Hospital  in Issaquah. I feel similarly as Kristi does with Dr. Brown. She's thorough and didn't stop searching for a cause of my symptoms despite my two previous radiology reports on my MRIs didn't pick up on a lesion. I had a new MRI on her 3T and four more lesions show and they caught the lesion that was missed! I find out today what she wants to do with me. lol

Google both doctors Kristi and I mention. They are both excellent!  I think they both have YouTube interviews as well. :)

Kristi-Thank you for the info. I would love to get Dr. Brown's # from you.

Shell-Laying low preparing for this move. I offer a comment every now and then, but even after 3 years I still think if I can avoid MS talk, then I won't have it..HAH!  Physically have not been doing too well. I walk with a limp to avoid tripping over my dragging right leg, and have not motivtion to do anything (thank god hubby's company is packing and moving us or else it would never get done!). I've been off all meds for almost a year since we lost insurance, but have appt with neuro on the 18th to get back on. Thanks for asking!

Hi Cuttersmom,

Where you been? Or, have I missed your posts?

Mscare.org has the state-by-state MS center list too that may be helpful in addition to anyone here from WA w/experiences like Stary.

How you been making out?

I am in the Seattle area. I go to the MS Center at Evergreen in Kirkland WA. I see Dr Brown and he is the most kind, compassionate person I've met. I was scared after the way I was treated by other neuros but he dx'd me within 10 min after finding several lesions other Drs missed.  PM me if you want his office #.

Take care!! Happy travels!!
