Hi. My neurologist asks that all his MS patient to be screened for osteoporosis. It has been his experience that many MSers have low bone density. I don't know why. He didn't elaborate.
I would guess that inactivity could play a role????
Good luck to you on Monday.
I've never come across any data showing a relationship between osteoporosis and MS. However, sufferers from both are overwhelmingly female. In general, MS begins to develop at a younger age and osteoporis occurs post-menopausily.
One thing you need to keep in mind, now that you have both, is that steroids used to treat severe exacerbations are very hard on bone density. If you need steroid treatments, try to space them widely apart, and make them a last rather than first resort.

I'd be surprised if there's a direct link with MS, though there could be indirect links, like low bone density from lack of movement (weight-bearing exercise increases bone density). Also, other autoimmune diseases (celiac disease) cause malabsorbtion and therefore can contribute to osteoporosis. Many people have multiple autoimmune diseases.
