MS forgetfulness - your remedies

i forget things more than i would like. and i'm not speaking of "normal 55yo type" either. the MS type along with a thought of what your going to do next, but then forget about it. forgetting what you read, etc.

mild, but i have it.

aricept was prescribed, but was wondering what others on this list do for this issue.

>>I have a membership with lumosity.com - they offer free access for the basic activities.

thanks. i think i went there before - can't remember. ;-) i'll revisit it.

>>or talk to your doctor about being referred for therapy,

i'll bring it up with my VA docs. my non-VA neuor is much more helpful in such matters though i'll mention it to both. he did Rx aricept, but if i decide to take it, i'll ask the VA to Rx it due to cost.

guitar practice is challenging now and fun. i don't do much with my electronics/programming now -- just can't seem to get into it and think up cool things to do.

thanks

>>  I have difficulty saying the words even if I am thinking them.  I'm not sure how to express it.

count me in on this too. being creative with spoken words is a thing of the past for me. if i'm in a bit of a relapse, it is extrememly difficult to carry on a conversation

>>I have to make sure to write everything on paper.  [..] ----then I have to remember to listen to the dang thing.

big ditto on that. stickems on the wall but i forget to "see" them

I keep Word open on my computer.  I make notes of things I want to accomplish (chores and the little art I can still do).  It also includes my meal planning and baking,.  I have a section for appointments with doctors and fun days with friends....Oh and any online shopping I want to get done.  I taught my sons to always begin their day with goals.  It has served them well even as adults.

Can I add that there are memory training games/tools on line as well and these have been shown to help.  I have a membership with lumosity.com - they offer free access for the basic activities.

Don't just resign yourself to losing it, try some of these activites or talk to your doctor about being referred for therapy,  I did that last spring and found it very useful.  We talked through memory strategies and how to strengthen skills.

I write things on my calendar.

I also have a whiteboard on the fridge with my schedule for the week and notes.

I do things in sequence, performing the same tasks the same way such as checking to make sure I locked the door by trying the handle three times. Or grooming and saddling a horse. One day my instructor forgot the girth the thing that holds the saddle on and I remembered.

I keep my keys on a rack so I can always find them. I have a wooden box for cell phone and wallet.

I make lists of things I need to bring on a trip or to do lists.

I tell my husband to remind me of things.

I have to keep the house neat because clutter confuses me, something I did not used to need to do.

I use post it notes.

I put pills in  weekly organizers. I have gotten to the point I take a pill and right away can't remember.

I have an organizer with 1-31 for your bills so you know the date they are do.

You can set an alarm on your watch or cell phone to know when to take pills if they need to be taken at a certain time.

I have the same problem, my memory is pretty bad.  I have difficulty saying the words even if I am thinking them.  I'm not sure how to express it.

I have to make sure to write everything on paper.

My blackberry has a voice recorder that I use.  But----then I have to remember to listen to the dang thing.
