MS or NOT

I have a lesion in my brainstem that was large but now has shrunk and is stable. It's been two years since I first got it. My right side of body and left side of front face stays tingling. I've gotten use to it. My doctor said I will probably always have since it's most likely nerve damage.

My doctor didn't know exactly what caused the lesion so I was diagnosed with demylation desease since I only have one lesion.

My question, if it is MS, how long can I go without getting another lesion?
Any other thoughts of what would cause a lesion in the brainstem other than demylation?

thank you HVAC for your input. I wish I could find more folks that had my same issues to relate to. I have no idea what I have, one lesion on brain stem, numbness on rightside of body & left side front face, stiff joints, headaches, don't like the heat and no energy (which is not like me). All my blood test come out normal.

If it were MS you could get more lesions at anytime or go years. Not even a doctor can predict that. I have had MS for over forty years. My lesions since 2007, they did not have MRIs in 1965, have been stable. Other people might have more lesions. MS progresses with or with out symptoms.

Hi and welcome to our little MS community,

There is no way to actually tell if someone will have any more attacks, clinical isolated syndrome (CIS) is the name for a one off demyelintion event. It is possible to only ever have the one event, though i think CIS may have higher stats on developing into MS within a 5 year period if not treating with any of the disease modifying drugs.

I would suggest you consider getting a second opinion with an MS specialist, there are many people being treated with DMD's for CIS now because of the long term benefits vs not treating and i think it would be worth wile to know all your options.

Cheers.........JJ

PS I think trauma maybe one of the most common cause of a brain stem lesion
