Last year I had the flue shot. The first time since I was nine years old. I am know 31 and have been diagnoised with progressive MS. I nevr had any symptons of MS before this. Could the flu shot be the cause for all my suffering

Nope!  Flu shots are perfectly safe, and have not been shown to cause any other diseases.

MS tends to be diagnosed when you're in your 30s.  I was diagnosed at age 35, but I'd had symptoms for three years before that.

Beck,

Hi there, so sorry for the PPMS diagnosis. I 2nd Jens, definitely nothing to do with the flu-shot. Or, anything that you chose to do. To be PPMS you more than likely had MS for some time now :(

We do have some members on the forum who are PPMS - hope they see your post and say hello and offer their thoughts.

Thanks for joining us!

So sorry about your diagnosis. It's quite common to try and blame something, anything for our dx. After all, there has to be a reason we got this disease isn't there?

Although they don't know exactly why some of us develop MS, they do know that flu shots don't cause it.

And as Shell said, people with MS actually have it quite a while before they are diagnosed.

Keep coming back to our forum and make yourself known. There is lots of support and fellowship here.

I am sorry for your diagnosis.  I was initially diagnosed with PPMS in July last year, with a final diagnosis in February this.  It is a tough pill to swallow.  One thing I have figured out is to stop trying to figure it out.  Now that you know what it is that has been plaguing you, save your energy for remaining as healthy as possible.

If you have a Neurologist you trust, then let him do everything he thinks is best for you,  There are not really any treatments that are recommended for PPMS, but many have responded to the meds used for other forms of MS.  Let your doctor try them.

Try to structure your life to save as much of your energy as you can.  I have found this to be vital.  If you are fatigued, then you must rest.  Pushing through it can make matters worse.  Sometimes even a short rest will recharge your batteries.  So stop, rest, then move on.

Above all, stick around this forum.  There is so much information that will help you understand and cope with this disease.  There is a great deal of concern and knowledge.  Let us help you, and you will be able to help us, too.

Most sincerely,
Beth
