Many tests but no answers...

Going to try to summarize without writing a book.

I am 50 yr old male in typically good health (exercise daily, eat right etc).  2 years ago my feet started having a burning sensation. I would pull socks down and not think anything more bout it.  About 6 months ago noticed by ankles had burning sensation as well.  Then noticed had numbness in right arm and face.

I went to ER where they ran stroke type tests and were negative and sent me home.

I went to cardiologist and ultrasound showed venous reflux in legs and prescribed stockings.  Those actually have improved burning significantly.

Now have developed twitches in right eyelid and left calf and few other places.  They come and go usually when I am sitting or laying down. Also noticed some burning in wrists.

I started feeling ants running under my skin occasionally so visited Neurologist..

She did the typical office exam and sent me for blood work, emgs and asked my to pick up mri results from my ER visit for head and spine.

Blood work was all ok.  She looked at images of MRIs of head and cervical and reports.  She said mri of head very clean.   My cervical showed severe right C5-C6 neural foraminal stenosis. Was aware of previous neck  issue.  EMG's were clean except for the neck.

I am in required PT for 6 weeks before insurance will approve back MRI. After the MRI of back she said to return and see her in September.

So at this point she has me on 200 mg of Neurontin which eliminates the ants feeling. It has also helped with the ankle burning.

I am not typically prone to anxiety, but not ruling it out as loss of our family dog and Dr Google have caused fair amount of stress.

She has lot of experience with MS and ALS patients so pretty confident in skill level.  She did tell me because of my extreme pector excavatum there is a rare neuropathy associated with that condition, but I would need to see a neuromuscular doctor and possibly do genetic testing and it would not be treated any different so she did not recommend it. She believes I have combination of things w venous reflux causing ankle situation and peripheral neuropathy.

Just curious if there is anything else to do other than take these last back mris in 6 weeks.  Just want to make sure I am not missing something.

Thanks,

Zero

I do not see why you would need another EMG.

Update.  Over the past several weeks have noticed that legs are really twitching and getting real sore.  Also starting to get cramps in legs.  I am going to go ahead and pay for mri's out of pocket tomorrow.

Any possibility that I need to have another EMG.  Other one was just two weeks ago, but these symptoms sure seem like something should have shown up on EMG. Neurologist looked my straight in eye and said no A__ but little scary with these developments.

Thanks,

James

Sounds like your doctor is covering all the basis. According to the doctor you have several things going on. I do not think you have to worry about MS. Peripheral Neuropathy is not MS related.
