Two and a half years ago, I lost 125 pounds and started to see my blood sugar readings coming down. I was able to stop insulin. A true victory for me. I remained on diabetes pills twice a day until last week. My blood sugar was low. The doctor's cut my medication in half. Another victory. Today, the doctor's cut ALL my diabetes medicine.
First the first time in 14 years I am now FREE of any and all diabetes medicine. Does that mean that I am cured? No, I will always have to be careful and watch my sugar closely. But no more pills....WHOPEEEE!
BUT...I DO FEEL FREE...for the first time in 14 years. Thank you for letting me share this news with you. Wonder if I can get away with going to Dairy Queen tonight for a milkshake with bits of Oreo cookie in them? Naw...I better leave that stuff alone.
FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!! i'm really happy for you hunny, and you lost 125lbs glad u chose to celebrate with us,you must be feeling great great GREAT :) WELL DONE
hugs at you CJ
That is the most wonderful news!!! Thank you for sharing that with us! I needed a good news story today, and yes our wonderful Heather fullfilled :)
Thank you and "WayToGo"!!!!!!!
Cyndi
Congratulations, Heather! What you have done is totally amazing and difficult and you deserve to be lifted up on our shoulders and carried around for the day!
Bascially I am on the diet where if it tastes good, I know it's bad for me.....just kidding. I just follow a sensible "diet" (really a lifestyle change, I don't diet) and watch my intake of carbs. Carbs are not good for diabetics and certainly not good for someone that wants to watch their weight. I have also forever given up anything that is fried and eat little to no bread products.
Thanks for all of your good thoughts at my news. Today is a GOOD day in Heather's life. Time for some good news, when the world is filled with so much bad news, these days.
Praise God for this gift! I am proud of you for your weight loss, your daily perseverance through a (couple of) tough diseases, and your continued support to our people on the forum. Love to you, Amy
That is awesome!! I'm so happy for you.... to feel a bit of freedom from at least one thing that has plagued you for so long.... :) I'm so glad you told us.... sending up a big prayer of thanks that you can breathe a llittle easier in this area...
that is so good, to get that off your plate and you'll feel much better about that disease...keeping it under control is the next step... Good for you Heather... Good for you.
Congratulations !!!!! That is wonderful news. I am glad to hear it. That takes some very hard work to get under control much less get over it. You should be very proud. It runs in my family and I have been watching myself very closely. Now you really have a something to celebrate the long weekend with. Great Job!!!!
OMG, that is such awesome news. I CAN imagine how you must be feeling. I know if my DH was taken off all his diabetic drugs, he wqould jump for joy. However, we did get some good news. His A1C went from 10.6 down to 7.7 in 3 months WOO HOO.
You are a true inspiration to all of us here that anything you put your mind to can be done!! 125 pound weight loss is phenomenal and you deserve to be rejoicing!!
My Uncle, the one whose wife committed suicide a month ago, just lost his baby toe to diabetes yesterday so I am well aware how much your triumph really means!!
Congratulations Heather, You Rock!!!
Love,
Kristin
Nice work, Heather! A fine example that just because something may be hard to do, doesn't mean it's impossible. Many people get so down when diagnosed with a disease, they don't believe they can do anything to change it, and just give up. You're an inspiration to anyone who may be inclined to think like that. The fact that you achieved what you did while dealing with MS at the same time only makes your story that much more impressive.
This is HUGE! BIG! WONDERFUL! I am so proud of you and happy for you. What a strong thing to have done by yourself and for yourself. I am very impressed, awe-struck even.
thats really good to read congrats to you as i know how hard living with diabetics is (i live with 2 farther in law and my partner) so pleased for you im hollowing wiv u
take care luni.
I have rejoiced in all your positive comments. Thank you so much for your support.
If I can overcome diabetes just by losing weight, it gives hope to those that are overweight, whose diabetes CAN be controlled with weight loss. You can do it too. I am convinced that all those pounds I was carrying were indeed responsible for my years of pill and insulin dependency.
I do know that there are those who are not over-weight and still have uncontrollable diabetes. Watch your diet, take your medication faithfully, exercise as you can tolerate and keep working on it. It can be controlled in most cases. Sticking to the diabetic diet may not be fun, but it's better than losing a leg to out of control diabetes.
Thank you again for helping me to celebrate. I could think of nothing better than to celebrate with my cyber family.
I'm still reeling in not having to take any medication. It's hard to get used to after 15 years on that stuff. I still want to go to Dairy Queen and get a milk-shake with Oreo cookies. I know that if I do that, I will still have to watch my diet closely for the rest of the day. But gosh, it sure will taste good. One of our members relished in a cream doughnut this morning (and you know who you are...) and by gosh, she didn't share. She ate it all, but said that she would send me the wrapper to lick off. Isn't that sweet? NOT! Huzzy girl....LOL
hugs at you CJ
your hard work has paiid off. Keep upi the good work, i know it is not easy. amo
It also runs heavy in my husbands family. What kind of diet do you follow?

Congratulations!!!!! I am so happy for you, and I am so proud of you!!!!
Diabetes is terrible, my Dad had it and died of colon cancer that metastasized to his brain.
So, I'm esp. relieved that you made the sincere effort to not only get yours under control, but eliminate it!!!!

Sheila
