Med Swap: Rapaflo v. Flomax

I saw my urologist he other day and she said that she now like Rapaflo (slidosin) more than Flomax (tamsulosin) for urinary hesitancy.  Both are designed to address benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). I know the primary audience is men, but there are women who take tamsulosin for urinary hesitancy.

I was taking the max dose of tamsulosin, .8mg/day. I'm now taking 8mg Rapaflo/day. I'm told that it will take 4-5 days to see the full benefit if Rapaflo and I'm now on day 3. So far so good. I think it's allowing me to better empty my bladded. This means fewer trips and less concern about where the nearest bathroom is.

For  those on FLomax, it may be worth a conversation...

Hi JB -

I went back to the urologist afgter a 3 year hiatus. She was the doc who prescribed Caverject, for ED. It has been fantastic. I needed a refill (the original fill turned out to be a near lifetime supply but is oast its expiration date). I fugured she would not require a long explanation, nor any retesting etc.

She would laso know if there was anything ne on the ED treatment front, and the urinary hesitancy front. The answers were no on the ED front and yes (so far) on the UH front. I just think that urologists are more likely to know what's new than PCP's.

One man's opinion...

being a  man in my 50's I can relate,  I was going to ask my PCP about this on my next visit,  I really don't want to go an urologist.

Your thoughts ?

thanks
