Med question

Well since the doctor upped my Lyrica, I have been having serious bouts with mood swings. I am not sure if it is from the medicine or if it is just from everything in general. The increased dose really helps me but I am not sure if I want to keep up with these mood swings.

I will be happy one minute, a bear the next and the slightest little thing will make me cry. I am dealing with it and my family understands that the medicine has brought this on I just dont' know if I should go back down to my original dose or just see what happens.

My neuro told me to be careful of side affects with upping the dose. I am not suicidal by no means so that is nothing to worry about. Do medicines sometimes take a while to adjust too? Should I just lower my dose or call my neuro?

LOL as long as I have been dealing with everything that is going on with me I still have to ask you all everything.

Thank you,
Paula

Thanks everyone,

I have decided to cut back on the lyrica, and so far today the pain is worse and it has only been one day without the lyrica. Not sure what to do. I see my neuro on November 2 so I will discuss this with him then, in the mean time I am just going to go back up with the lyrica and deal with it until I see him in less than a month.

Thank you again for your input.

Hi Paula -

I have nothing to add - just wanted to 2nd Alex - she's so right on knowing and trusting your baseline is key.
You've had a lot going for awhile now, things have simmered for you and now think you are getting some signs that you need to watch and your instincts are spot on. Feel you can trust them.

Everyone of us has a different chemistry and I have a tough time with figuring what is me and what is medicine. I keep journals. Sometimes with a Doctors guidance I decrease and if the symptom goes away it is the drug.  With me there are so many interactions between medications.

In my case I realized certain drugs make my migraines worse. Other drugs make my gut worse. Some are for the gut. For me it is a fine line I walk with medications.

I am trying to strike the right balance. I have figured out which ones were actually making things worse and which help. It takes a long time. Then with me drugs will stop working after a few years.

Knowing and trusting your base line is important.

According to Wikipedia: Infrequent Adverse Effects (0.1–1% of patients) include: depression, lethargy, agitation, hallucinations, myoclonus, hypoaesthesia, hyperaesthesia, tachycardia, excessive salivation, sweating, flushing, rash, muscle cramp, myalgia,

Sounds like you may be in that small percentage.
