Momentary vision loss

I need some advice.  Craig is having some periodic loss of vision.  Yesterday he was driving and almost hit the car in front of him because he lost his vision and everything went black.  Then in a few seconds his vision came back.

When he got home, he told me that he pulled over on the side of the road because he was tired.  However, tonight he went to the store to buy batteries (had a power failure) and on the way home, he lost his vision momentarily again.

This time he again pulled over. He told me that last night he actually lost his vision, he did not pull over from fatigue.  he has had a glucose tolerance test a few months ago and his blood sugar is borderline high, but he has never had vision problems before.  Dr. M looked at his eyes last month.

Has this happened to anyone??  Momentary loss of vision??

Thanks,
Elaine

Hi Quix,
Craig's BP was normal.  However, I have noticed today that after he takes Provigil, his BP goes up. It goes up despite the Cradizem and Benicar he is on for high BP.   This lasts till evening.  He might have to go off the Provigil.
  Thanks,
  Elaine

Hi, Q!

Elaine did check his pressure, which was normal.

Glad you saw this post!

Feel well,

The description of the vision loss could also be low BP.  Is he on any new meds from the physiatrist?  Check to see if any of them can drop the BP.  Did the episodes occur at the same time after a dose?

Yes, Elaine, you'll be driving until this sorts itself out.

Can you check his BP at home?

Okay, you've done what I would have suggested.  Tonight leave a message on Dr. M's phone machine with the message, and follow up with an urgent call in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is also exactly what I would suggest.

Was he examined by an ophthalmologist on call, or an ER doc?   When was his last brain MRI?

We're all getting better at chasing geese, aren't we?

Hang in there, and please call Dr. M. tomorrow, as well.  Tally ho!

Hi everyone.  Craig went to the emergency clinic.  He was examined by the doctor, who found nothing abnormal   He said for Craig to go to the PCP tomorrow and get in to see the opthamologist asap.

And I will be doing the driving...
This may be another goose chase.

Hey Sweetie, how are you Craig doing today? I hope everything is going ok. I am worried about this, especially with him driving. I hope a opthamologist can give you two some answers. He definately needs to be seen.  Please keep me posted.

I am sorry.  But, I think it is time for Craig to not be driving, at least until this is dealt with.  There are more people than Craig to worry about.

I called an emergency clinic.  The nurse took had me check Craig's BP (in a good range) and made sure he was oriented to person, place and time, which he is.  He can feel all extremities and has no dizziness etc so most likely not circulatory related.  According to her anyway.

She said, to be honest, at this hour, they would do nothing for him.  She said to keep an eye on him and take him in to the emergency clinic in the morning for the doctor to evaluate him.  Craig has a new PCP now so I will also call him on Monday.  The doctor at the emergency clinic knows Craig as he has been there on numerous occasions.

Our hospitals are pretty booked now..  Lots of flu, pneumonia, and a 40 car crash on a highway that runs through DE happened today.

So, Craig seems ok now and I will keep an eye on him and take him in the morning.

Thank you for your help.

CRAIG REALLY NEEDS TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.

HE MAY HAVE HAD AN OPTICAL LESION FURTHUR BACK THAN WHAT AN EYE DR CAN SEE ON A NORMAL EXAMINE

PLEASE DON'T LET CRAIG GO TO LONG WITH INTERMINTANT VISUAL LOSS

SENDING YOU BOTH HUGS AND PRAYERS

Oh. my GOODNESS!

Get some help immediately, please!  Craig's vision is nothing to be stoic about!

Please call your PCP right now and ask what to do.  I bet you'll have to go to the ER.  Perhaps the best place for him.

Please keep us posted.

I totally agree with Moki.  Craig needs to be seen ASAP by someone.  I believe this could be something serious.  Possibly a TIA or something going on with his Optic Nerve.  This needs immediate attention.  It doesn't matter whether it's fleeting or not, it's a serious symptom that something is going on.

Please take him to an ER before these periodic vision losses turn into something worse.  This is a time to listen to our bodies and Craig's is screaming out....

Please keep us posted, Elaine.  This is scary.  And I know that you are scared.

P.S.  I have had a couple episodes where my vision went totally black for a second or two.  Scared the living you know what out of me.  I mentioned it to my Neuro, but I didn't get any answers.  If this happens again, I am headed to the ER.

God Bless you two.  You know tha t you will be in my prayers and hope you will take the advice of others.  This is serious.

Hi Elaine,

I'm so sorry that Craig has this going on.  Glad though that he didn't get hurt while this happened.  Seems he's had some close calls.  He really shouldn't drive right now.

I don't know what causes it, but do know that the Neuro's ask about it, frequently.  Mine does at each appointment. As did the 2nd Neuro.  I wish I had more to give, but pray it doesn't continue to happen.  Have you looked up the ON? I know they specifically asked me if everything went black, or if I lost vision, but not sure why and only assumed ON.  I only had the blurry for weeks the summer prior to dx.

Hope it doesn't continue, I'll say extra prayers tonight,
SL

How scary for Craig, I'm so sorry this is going on for him. He really doesn't need anything else at this point.

I'm not going to be much help here, but I really think that Craig needs to get this checked out ASAP. I get blurred vision that will hit like that but it also can last hours or days but have never had complete black out vision. I really think this needs to be checked.

I'm sending prayers for Craig that answers are forthcoming soon. You are both in my thoughts.

Hugs
