It's interesting - the talk about increased emotions. Before I had my attack, I had talked to my dr as I felt that i was getting over emotional over silly things, I told him I would be crying but thinking at the same time - why am I crying it's not sad. i thought I was going through menopause early. he told me no, I wasn't going through menopause and changed my birth control. (go figure.) a couple months later I had the double vision and numbness that spread. I also notice that when texting my husband or friend my hands must shake a little because I do a lot of the double letters with my right hand. at least that doesn't set me off emotionally - it just seems so far to be commercials, and some TV programs.

This is so interesting. I just got home from the elementary schools meet your teacher night. I almost started crying when my 2nd grader walked up to her teacher! What's that all about? I get emotional watching sports. This has all come on over the last ten years. I chalked it up to getting older. Now I wonder if it's been my MS. (Just diagnosed 5 months ago).
I do believe Montel has always been an emotional person. Maybe his MS has added to it?? As long as there is no depression involved, I think its ok!

I have always been emotional, BUT now some days I'm out of control lol My dx for now is cognitive disorder/possible ms. Anyhow, I have days where I will cry like the biggest sissy for no reason at all. Or I will get very angry to the point where I want to punch walls! I know!!! Craziness :) I would like to say maybe bi-polar but so many other cognitive issues going on (memory issues, confusion, can't think of words etc). I'm not even trying to figure it out, I'm letting this one up to the Doctors lol
Now here is an odd one for you. While taking Neuronton, if I felt like this and would take it, I'd be fine, I'd calm down and feel like 100% in the "head" department anyhow. My anxiety medication doesn't stop it but the Neuronton does. I had to stop taking it due to it causing more headaches then normal and I already get them constantly :( And my ins. has denied me for Lyrica to try because I was not dx with fibromyalgia!!!! UGHH
Interesting. I've seen him talk a few times about MS on TV, and he hasn't been emotional about it at all. So perhaps it is just how he is feeling that day.
Regardless, 20+ years before my dx, I was always an emotional person. Now I'm emotional when I talk about MS as it has been a life changing experience. Even though my symptoms aren't near as severe as others, the uncertainty of the future weighs on my thoughts.
He has a facebook page and you could just ask him.
BTW - he is very open about his liberation procedure and you can read it on FB at

I have also noticed an increase in my "tearful" emotional side.
I saw the Dr. Oz show with Montel, i don't remember hearing about the procedure (was this CCVI?) Anyway the majority of the talk show was the discussion of medical marijuana (or legalizing marijuana for medical purposes ) as Montel stated this was the only thing that helped him with the pain.

Well Double I don't know that much about it either but I think I've become a lot more emotional since having MS... I've always had a tender heart but it's really been bad since my symptoms started... I think Montel is a lot like me in that he is just an emotional guy... That's how he seems to me any way...
I used to watch his show all the time and he was always very emotional when talking about his MS but he was just as emotional in dealing with people on his show if their situation was a sad one...

hmmm...I have found since I've been having all my symptoms (10 months - no DX) I cry much more easier.
I was also wondering about emotional lability, but I'm not unnecessarily crying or laughing - just very emotional. I can with music, tv ads, the news, you name it!
And I was never like this before - in fact people would say I was cold-hearted! I never cried for anything. Now I can be bawling over the littlest thing. I've tried to see if I'm actually upset or not, but to tell the truth I can't really tell. Which is kind of weird in itself. But I definitely don't feel depressed.

I agree we don't have the right to 'pick on him.' If you read my post carefully you'll understand that wasn't the purpose of this thread. I was seeking what others think in terms of whether his emotions may be actual symptoms of his MS, what is coined "emotional lability" or "pseudobulbar effect" and manifested as tearfulness(vs., for example, due to situational depression), as it is a symptom I don't know a whole lot about.
Each of us deals with our Dx in our own way. I don't think we have the right to pick on him or "thread up" because he tears up easily.
We each feel that our symptoms are very real to us and get upset when doctors overlook them, and am sure that how people deal with their illness(s) (regardless of MS or not) is just as real to them.
I mean no disrespect however I know when I am i pain, I cry because it releases endorphins in the brain that help..
I'm ok with him crying, I watched him on Youtube when he first revealed to the public on Ophra show about his M.S. he was very emotional then.
Just Google his video's
I saw Montel on Fox, here's the link below, I never knew he served our Nation, at the end of the video he mentions he will be on Dr.Oz this fall to discuss his M.S and the surgery he had to relieve his symptoms, I do know he is in pain every day.

Yes, he cries a lot. Of course, we don't know what he was like pre-MS.
I don't thing lability has to be as extreme as you describe to be from MS. On the other hand, lability implies odd laughing symptoms as well, or at least giddiness. I haven't noticed that in him, but then I really haven't seen much of him.
Are there any MS-related meds that could provoke emotionalism?
