Mood Swings - MS????

Hi All,

Just a quick question, does anyone else with MS have issues / symptoms of very very quick changes in moods?
I find one minute i can be really happy and the next i can be vrey very angry over very small things...... Pretty sure it's not depression as i seem to be able to do 'every day' life things with ease. As in still exercise and go to work?!

Any feedback would help! Thanks in advance!

Actually, I believe lability refers to much faster emotional swings than Jumpin describes. Sometimes it can lead to really inappropriate and extreme emotions---laughing or crying at the wrong times, for instance. That has been described in brain-injured patients.

Hope none of us will ever get extreme.

Let's go for moderation in all things  :-)

Limbolander checking in. I get these usually when something hits one of my hot button issues. Then I can fly into extreme anger very quickly without stopping to check in with the rational center first. Knee jerk reaction stuff. Or I can wake up one day sad over nothing, and later that day or the next, the it mysteriously clears on it's own like a fog lifting.

It usually happens when I'm a) PMSing b) have been low on sleep for several days straight or c) coming down with a flu bug of some type.

Not sure if it's at all related to what's happening now, or it it is part of a hormonal shift. I've always thought of it as hormonal shifts.

Hey, Gem, nice to see you.

What you describe is certainly found in MS. It's not one of the more common symptoms, but it does happen. It's called emotional lability. You might want to google that to find out more.

Apparently, interference with nerve pathways in the 'emotions area' of the brain is the root cause. It's possible that the symptom will recede as lesions try to heal. If not, at least you know why this is happening.

Good luck in this.
