Ms dietary recommendations

I was off line when myc omputer crashed and I missed the responses to my question of, is anyone else doing the MS eating guidelines? LuLu54 raised the question of validity regarding an MS diet which was a good question.

According to my neuro, the info is only about at max 2 years old, more like 18 months. My neurologist told me about the recommendations last fall when I started weight watchers. He told me that was a good plan to follow because it fit in with the dietary recommendations for MS. He advised me that research has discovered that eating as low fat diet as possible can slow the progression of MS and that there is a link between elevated cholestrol and progression. I asked my pcp about it and he confirmed it and told me that the recommendations hadn't been released too long prior to my seeing my neuro. So, in essence, the neurologist and pcp both called it the MS dietary guidelines, or if you will, diet. This was last fall. I don't know if it works, but it sure gives me motivation to stick to a low fat diet that is heart healthy, too.

Thanks for the info.  From what I have read, it sounds like a good bet all the way around.  Not dx yet but whatever I have is "likely" MS.  I intend to give myself the best chance I can in delaying progression.

I'll tell you, I do feel better eating low fat. Once in a while I've cheated and eaten something high fat and it actually makes me nauseous now. I do eat a lot more vegetables and veggie burgers and I'm very comfortable eating that stuff. I even went to Plant Hollywood on Nassau and ate a gardenburger! Of course, I'm allergic to shellfish which put a crimp in my style, but still, I seem to be overall healthier following this diet.
