Muscle Spasms

I have been having a terrible time with spasms for the last two weeks.  They haven't been this bad in a while, and have been so bad in my thighs and feet that it is hard to walk.

My question is, what makes the spasms move from place to place.  In the last week mine started in the top of my thighs right above my knees, at the same time I had them in my feet, my back and my arms.  How can they be in so many places at one time?  How can they be in my thighs and feet and not the calves of my legs?  Guess I'm just trying to figure out what's happening to me.

Today tops of my thighs are a little better, but the spasms have moved to the outside of both my thighs.  Also my back, arms, feet and now my calves are doing the spasm tango.  I just don't understand how they move around so much or just happen in one place sometimes.  I'm confused.......

I also wonder sometimes if some of the problem is spasticity and not muscle spasms.  When this started in the top of my thighs they were like rock they were so hard, and stayed this way constantly for days.  I was walking around like the Frankenstien monster.....ha...ha...  The same with my arms, they stay hard all the time and feel like they weight 200 lbs.

I can sometimes move and will get a really painful, what feels like a cramp, they will just not let up.  Even walking doesn't help.  Just moved in my chair and had this in the back of my left thigh, ouch!!!!!!

Well, better get up and see if I can get this stupid thing to stop.  Thanks for any answers you might have.

Hugs

Thanks, my friends.  I've tried the tonic water, Moke, ewwwwwwwwwww........it is awful!!! Just couldn't take much of that taste!!!  I guess it's the quinine?

I've got plans for seeing a dr when we get all done with all this with Beth.  If I can't find a way to get the MRI, I'm at least going to ask for meds for the spasms and the fatigue. All she can say is NO!!

Praying for all of you to be spasm free and feeling good!!  Have a great weekend!!!

Great to hear from you penn, I've been missing you!!!

Love & Hugs

Hon, with all that you have going on right now, I don't imagine that it is helping with your spasms. You are stressed and that added stress will probably make the spasms worse. I too get them but not as severe as the rest of you and my daddy had spoken to the ER doc about them (he was supposed to be there for himself, sheesh Dad's) he suggested I try to drink Tonic Water daily to see if that would help. It tastes yucky, blechy, gross but I have been doing it and I think it has helped. Just a thought.

Praying you get some relief soon hon,
Your batty friend

Hi, doni.

Sweetie, I'm sorry you're suffering with spasms. I get them and they are miserable...until I began taking 2 MG of Diazepam (generic Valium) every 6 hours round the clock.

Do you think your doctor would prescribe it?

Hugs,
Sheila

I so sorry to hear you've joined tha spaz party. Mine too have been unbearable lately  - I feel like a giant walking boulder much of time and still have horrible spasms that last a long time too. I take baclofen 4X a day. It may sound like it doesn't work, but my doc took me off at one point and it was MUCH worse.

Mine occur in different areas too, sometimes at once, sometimes a few minutes apart. My legs "roll" from muscle to adjacent muscle nearly all around the leg. Lasts quite long. It doesn't make sense to me eother - just wanted you to know you're not alone.

I'm never sure of the whole accurate terminology thing (you'd think I could keep it straight since its my primary PIA). Do you have any appts coming up? I keep joking that I wil be limber as a minx next Thursday for my appt with the dyskinesia doc! Or they'll cancel again and I'll go postal, lol!

If he can do so without me whacking him (mine hurt to touch much of the time too) and I can stand the pain of touch, my DH will rub Icy Hot on it, then we'll wrap it in a heating pad. This process hurts very much due to the touching, but it cuts the duration and recovery down a good bit.

Sorry can't be very helpful, but you'r ein my prayers as always. Be well, my friend.

Hugs between spasms,

Penn

I'm so sorry your having a rough time. I know exactly what your talking about. My spasms like to change spots throughout the day but it prefers my left side. I do get spasms in my right leg but nothing compared to the left.Sometimes the muscle will be so stiff, it will look like I'm flexing my muscle. It constantly stays in that flexed state.

Are you on any medication for your spasms? If not, you really need to be. I get some relief from Baclofen. It is a CNS muscle relaxer. It takes away the muscle spasms and relieves the spasticity.

I would call your doctor if this keeps up. It's no fun being in pain.
