Muscle question

Ok I though I knew what was going on with my muscles but after reading Quix's response about muscle spasms I have no idea of what term I should have been using.

Last week I had talked about having muscle spasms in my legs while driving but I guess that wasn't the right term.

What was happening was the muscles in my calf and the upper muscle in my thigh would contract real hard then relax some then contract again. This kept happening for about 2 days.  I get tremors in my right arm all of the time, but it wasn't like that at all.

So what do I call it when I talk to my doctor the next time.

I am often of the belief that a smasm is like a strong tremor where what you are describing I call spasticity when I talk to my Drs.
Does that mean I am right...UM no, but I think that they understand what I mean.

I can't wait to hear how others describe it.

Here's wishing you relief of all spasms and spasticity so you don't have to worry about it:)

Dennis, you are correct in calling these spasms.  Strong nerve-driven contractions which may occur once or be repetitive.

Tremors are more than shakiness.  They actually have a rhythm to them.  they can be fine and hardly noticeable all the way up to gross, rhythmic wavings or almost flapping.

For definitions of most of these movements you can go to

i'd call them jerks/twitches as they are contractions and relaxtions which in turn has the fancy medical name myoclonus. many, many things can cause it so i would suggest that you get hold of your doctor sooner than later

With my spasticity anyhow, aside from the muscles being terribly painful, I have pretty severe joint pain, as the muscles pull at them pretty badly. The spasticity usually lasts weeks, to months at a time. Another way to assure (again for me) that the spasticity is humming away, is the incredible amount of weakness that comes with it, not to mention that it completely fatigues me. I almost cannot get enough sleep when I'm spastic.

The spasms come and go, sometimes many times a hour. I almost have to say that I prefer spasticity to spasms, as the pain and immobility is almost unspeakable.

That's pretty much how I measure what is going on with the muscles, hehe.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

After reading the responses I guess the best way to describe what was happening is a Spasmatic Tremor. There was a definite rhythm to the contraction and relaxation, but of a spasm strength.

I was going to say it sounds like cramps, which i get, but now not sure with the rhythms...
