I've wondered if the muscle can be electronically stimulated to build up tone... I've seen the ads for the muscle-building electrodes that you strap around your torso - they deliver an electrical charge to the muscles, causing them to flex. I think this would work even if the muscle doesn't receive signals from the brain.
One thing you can do is continue to exercise and lift weights. This will help you retain muscle tone, and mobility. I know it's difficult when you're tired!
Hi i have noticed a wasting of mucsle tone in my right leg my weakside and if i put my long zipped boots on they fit the left and are baggy on the right i used to have good muscle tone and large calfs as i running and horse ridding always active till i fell ill its been distressing watching it shrink away. How do you stop this??

Muscle weakness and muscle spasticity go hand-in-hand, in my opinion. The same problems that cause muscle weakness (nerve damage) can also cause spasticity (the nerve isn't communicating with the spine properly.)
For example, I have an atrophied muscle in my right leg. This causes my right knee to be weak. I also have a spastic muscle on the outside of that same leg, running from the knee to the ankle. It's usually the one that's right next to the atrophied one (one of the reasons I noticed the atrophy in the first place!)
