My Appointment on August 10th.

Hello everyone.

Again, I am in the process of being dx.  I don't really know the process of it all, and I know it's different for everyone.  I am going to my first neuro appointment on Aug. 10th.  My primary doctor put on the referral something about MS, maybe possible or look for or symptoms of.  I'm not completely sure, but I know she was writing all my symptoms down as I was saying them, so it is documented.

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what I should expect at this first appointment.  Or what I should bring with me, tell him, really stress to him.  I feel like I am going to be a little over dramatic, because I have been written off so many times by so many doctors, that to get my point across that I am not feeling okay I have to be over dramatic or something.

Any suggestions or tips or first time stories anyone can share with me would be wonderful.  I want to make sure I am prepared for anything that might happen.

Thanks,
Victoria

Thank you so much for the tips and health page!!  I'm nervous already, but I think it's just because I am prepared to be brushed off like all my other past doctors.

Victoria,  Aug 10 will be here before you know it.  That gives you just enough time to be prepared - and we have an excellent health page that will talk you through the steps of what to expect.

The most important thing I think to tell everyone is you can't study for a neurological exam.  nor can you cheat for the answers.  Be relaxed, be yourself, and follow the instructions of the doctor (they lead- patient follows).

The length of these initial visits seem to vary according to the doctor's style.  You may want to call them and ask how long your appt will be- my initial visit ws 90 minutes but I have heard of ones as brief as 15-30 minutes.
Take someone with you - it helps to have a second person listening to the doctor - you will be overwhelmed with all the information and questions coming at you.

I'm sure others will have tips for you, too, so I'll stop at this and let you go read that health page.

Good luck, Lulu
