I don't think she can accept that I have MS it ***** but a part of life....any ways she is now wanting me to check to see if it'll be okay for me to take these vitamins to fight off yeast overgrowing in you?? I have never heard these theory's on this fact I have heard them on aspertame though and b/c we cannot afford the $$ each month to detoxify my body I have just stayed away from all their products that they are in....just curious if anyone else has heard of the yeast theory???
I know what you mean in terms of parents just refusing to understand we've got a disease, condition, call it how you wish. My parents (i'm 32, ooookkaaaayyyy) dragged me all over the place and well, being in South America, your dx, even tho legally it IS between you and your Dr, mine was all around the place. I hated the poshy looking hospital where i met the most evil neuro who said (barely looking at about 30 slides on her desk) "you don't have a thing, you're faking and you need to see a shrink or go to Church (i'm Jewish) i took the million (seriously! so many!) slides to MY neuro and he couldn't believe it was an actual neuro that saw the slides. I have all sorts of lesions, but thank G'd i had just two attacks and that was it. I only have some slight symptoms now. And i'm only on Lyrica, Tramadol for emergenciesEmergency airway puncture Emergency contraception and all sorts of Bach Flowers, Biomeds and Homeopathy. I feel good. Of course i have my ups n downs, but all around, i'm doing good! i say, if it's natural, go for it. 5-HTP keeps my mood under control and i have even a "stress spray". Makes me feel good!
It's probably your mom's immense love to you what keeps her from accepting..

My mom grasps at straws a lot. Every week it's something different. She obsesses about herself as well, so it's a logical next step to obsess about my disease.
She wanted to buy me a case of Mona Vie, bought me the MS Recovery Diet. She even called me up to tell me all about the Port-o-Cath, which is a port in your body through which you can administer drugs (chemotherapy and antibiotics, mainly) I think she's going a little crazy!
I want everybody to remember that aspartame is NOT proven to be harmful to your body. They pull that old one out every few years. I don't drink diet drinks, and I have MS. So I can safely say that aspartame is not the cause of my MS.
As far as yeast goes, taking vitamins will not help or hinder yeast growth. You need yeast in balance with other bacteria in your body to keep things working properly. That's what the Danactive yogurt drink is all about, or the Yoplait live culture yogurt. Use of antibiotics can cause other bacteria in your intestinal tract to die, so that the yeast takes over. This results in a yeast infection. Acidophilus yogurt or tablets will prevent that balance from being disturbed.
As far as yeast causing your problems, it's just plain bunk. Seriously. There is a disease called cryptococcosis meningitis, which is a yeast infection of the CNS. If left untreated, the patient dies. It's acquired by inhaling yeast from the environment. So you're at risk if you work in a bakery or yeast production facility. They eliminate this by checking your spinal fluid and blood - the yeast is right there if you have it. If your doctor has diagnosed you with MS, you can be sure that it's probably not cryptococcosis meningitis.
Vitamins, on the other hand, can help you feel better. Vitamin D and B12 are typically low in MS patients, so supplements will improve your life, even if they don't do anything for the yeast.

she just doesn't want any of her children to be sick...even though I'm in my 50s...I don't want my children sick either...
it will take time for them to realize that there is treatment and you will survive...we all hope so right...
take care and hang in there
