Kyle, I'm glad you're feeling better!
Wow, between all the rest o' youse, I feel lucky I haven't joined that club, yet. There have been a few times where I was suspicious, but the symptoms never lasted more than a day. Whew!
Feeling great! The drugs seem to be working! I even took my new recumbent bike for a 45 minute spin this morning :-) i'll be a little more watchful going forward...
Kyle
Kyle,
sorry to hear of your chills. My guess would be that the infection may have gone upstream to your kidneys. Kidney infections versus bladder infections cause the chills/rigors.
If you start to feel worse go to the ER for treatment. Signs of sepsis could include fever, nausea, vomiting and/or fever . Better safe than sorry.
I do hope this NOT the case and you feel better fast and the Levaquin catches up with the nasty bug attacking your poor body!!
Best,
Ren
Well, Kyle, let's hope they're checking fkr sepsis -- and find none.
They took blood at the DITB. I'm not sure what the are looking for. The results aren't back yet but I've asked for a copy. BTW, the DITB called last night to check on my progress! Pretty nice, better than some regular docs :-)
Kyle, I'm not sure if you were here when I had this happen, so a quick run down -
the shakes would come and go but I was being treated for a UTI with regular antibiotics. I would finish the round and a few days later be tested again for the UTI and find the infection was still there. I would take another round, be off them for a week or so and then be retested and the UTI was still there.
This went on and on over several months. About three months into it I started with these shakes - but there were always timed for the few days I was off the antibiotics. Eventually the bigger germs won out.
As best as we could figure - the antibiotics I was on kept the infection just simmering but never really cleared. The shakes only happened in those times I was between rounds of antibiotics. I will never forget that feeling - I think anyone who has experienced rigors from sepsis would agree. It was a bone rattling, uncontrollable shaking. Strangely not painful, but definitely uncontrollable - nothing I did would stop the shaking and it would pass on its own and the timing of more antibiotics.
The lesson to all of this is if you finish your pills and then those shakes return, please see someone other than a DITB and insist on having a blood test done. :-)
wow, is this the season for UTI's ??? I;m on my 4 one this year, and it is not nice. They put me on Cipro again, with a repeat, especially since I have another surgery booked for the 20th of August. Gonna be a good thing to say good bye to 2013.... can hardly wait.....
Hope you feel better soon Kyle, and Lulu, well, you know I always am wishing you the best, and the warmth of loved ones and family ...:)
Lulu you sound exactly like the DITB, and i suspect you know more about this than he does :-) The shakes were kinda scary so I'll pay closer attention going forward!
Kyle
Kyle, the comment about the chills reminds me of my round of sepsis when a UTI went rogue and took a swim through my blood stream. I experienced bone rattling chills a number of times before the EF figured it out, landed me in the hospital, and a couple days of IV antibiotics.
I am going to guess that yours was not the same because you only mention one episode, however it is something you need to keep in mind. The shakes could have been from rigors, a UTI can ascend pretty easily in a variety of different ways. The dx for this would be done through a blood test and not a simple urine dip.
feel better, but if the shakes return, visit the ER and not the Doc in a Box!
Laura
Lmao... Doc in a box!!
My work BFF diagnosed my uti last week does that make her or I part of the club? Lol and the doc in the box confirmed it too!
Day 2 of Levaquin dawns with marked improvement! 20 minutes between trips to the bathroom has stretched to 2 hours.
One thing I will not miss is the full body, Richter Scale registering chills/shakes! I spent one evening, in July in the Northeast, with a fleece zipped up under my chin and a blanket wrapped around my legs. Big Fun:-)
Kyle
Gotta remember to buy stock in Ocean Spray.
Kyle, move over ,today I was diagnosed with yet another UTI. Guess the internet is catchy ,lol.
Here's to another glass of cranberry juice :-).
Ren
Haha, ren... I spent 17 days as a guest in one ofthe Central Ohio's finest health care facilities -- in 1986. I have a 23-staple scar I could show y'all, where they yanked out my right kidney, rebuilt all the plumbing to & from it, then put it all back in. Trust me; I know my kidneys, and everything attached to them (even though I was well medicated for all but the first hour of that journey).
Sadly, my first instinct is to offer my congratulations, but that seems so mean.
I hope the meds and juice help and that it does not become a frequent occurrence.
I had 3UTIs a couple of years ago in a 6 month period but it was pre-dx so I can't consider myself part of club. :-)
Corrie
Welcome aboard- it sure took you long enough! LOL. The cranberry juice has to do with the acidity and killing the cooties, but it takes a LOT of juice to change your body chemistry. Cranberry tablets are a better route if you really want to supplement the antibiotic, and aren't near as heavy to carry home from the store.
The levaquin should be making a big difference and you will feel so much better - now you know what a pseudo-relapse can feel like.
hugs, Laura
Don't feel bad Ren. I was beginning to feel left out :-)
Sign me,
Awash in cranberry juice (& Levaquin)
Sorry to hear that you have joined the UTI Club and hope you get a fast resolution! Pastor Dan must be a pro at this since he gave the exact instructions to follow and expected resolution time.
Sorry you're in the club too PD.
Ren
Seems rather masochistic water/cranberry juice thing :-) But, that which does not kill me...
Have started to see some improvement already, after one dose.
Kyle
"Individual results may vary." I'll go out on a limb and say 48 to 72 hours should get you to some noticeable improvement -- IF you follow all the other instructions, such as laying off soda pop, adding cranapple, blah, blah, blah. Drink lots if water.
Ooooh! I was hoping I'd get the secret handshake!
Oh long does it take for Levaquin to kick in?
Kyle
It's like you've 'leveled up'! Welcome to the club. We'll teach you the special knock and secret handshake after the Levaquin has worked its magic.
