My stepmom passed away unexpectedly

I received an awful call this morning from my 1/2 sister telling me she had found her mom, my stepmom on the floor. She turned her over and began doing CPR but it was too late. Brenda (stepmom) had been very unwell for many years. Her health began fading when she had several abdominal surgeries causing adhesions to form, take too much pain meds, and she eventually had to be fed thru a tube in her stomach. TPN. She was in and out of the hospital for years.

My dad is also very unwell. He has progressive MS and COPD. I am very worried about what the stress will do to him. If he will want to stay around after losing her. I haven't had to make funeral arrangements before but I am going to Spokane to help in any way I can.

Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. I'm worried about stress on me too. This has been so terrible. My poor dad...

What an awful blow! Unexpected loss can be the hardest. I am so sorry for your loss and I appreciate the worry about your Dad. My mom was left to carry on without my Dad, so I know that struggle as well.

Support, both physically and mentally will help your Dad and as others have said , please remember to take care of yourself! You need to be as healthy as you can to help you and your Dad process this grief.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. And, of course, come here to vent, gather strength and help you through this sudden sad news.

Thank you everyone for your support. My stepmom was only 59. She served 20 yrs in the Air Force so my husband is coordinating for her to get a full military burial with the 21 gun salute.

We are going over tomorrow(today is my youngest daughters bday)
Services are Sat so I hope everyone gets thru this ok.

That must have been so awful for your 1/2 sister finding her mom on the floor, and there's nothing she can do to save her.  
I'm sending healing thoughts your way and to your family.  
I too lost my parents young - my mom was only 51yrs old (she died 7 yrs ago) & my dad was 55yrs old (he died 11 yrs ago).  My dad had a full military burial.  

If you contact the VA, your step-mom's burial costs will be partly paid for by the military - regardless if it was service related or not.
