My tongue has felt burned for the past few weeks

Is this something I should attribute to MS?  The burned feeling comes with taste problems too.  The weird thing is that it's not even my whole tongue- only half.   Anyway, I have not actually hurt my tongue- and even if I had, it would have returned to normal by now.

I've also started having trouble with liquids dribbling out of the left side of my mouth, and choking on both liquids and solids.  All these things, and increased cold/numbness in my left arm.  Maybe I'm beginning another relapse- but it really hasn't been all that long since the last one ended.

Does any of this sound familiar?  I haven't had the tongue problems before this.

It's a good lesson for me.  Not everything we experience is neurological,

It turns out that my taste/tongue problems aren't due to ms.  I am having a bad reaction to a toothpaste (of all things!!)  I have been using Crest Pro Health, and it turns out I am sensitive to it.  Weird huh?

This was last summer and I had not started to be very organized in writing down. But it could be that at the same time I had tinnutus, and a "spider crawling" on my ear.

The info on cranial nerves is very interesting, and makes sense.  I hope it heals up.  (Or else I hope it gets bad enough to at least help me to drastically reduce my eating!)  Someone gave me a few chocolate chips cookies, and even they tasted awful to me.  This person is a good baker, so it was me.  Such a bummer!  - But at least in that instance, i didn't eat any cookies!  Maybe there is a bright side to all of this.

Say, Dagun- were you having other symptoms when you had this problem?

Hi Max, I´ve had burned tongue, just like I had been drinking something very hot. It lasted for about a month, at the same time I had a little swallowing problem and tingling left face from cheek and down (left side of lips and nose also). But I did not get changed taste, or at least it was not much obvius. Hope this gets better for you soon.
My best,
Dagun

Hi Maxie!

I won't protest to know for certain, but feel you may enjoy reading about the Cranial Nerves - you'll see the tongue is mentioned in CVII I believe....

Check it out...

I don't think it's actually numb.  I get weird pins and needles sensations in my face, and numbness in lips.  If I were taking steroids, I would assume that's the reason.  I will experiment tonight with salty, sweet, sour, and bitter tastes.  Maybe I can figure out what's happening that way.

I don't know what to tell you.  When I came home from my attack last may-june, after the steriod treatment, my tongue felt strange...like the taste buds were scalded, and food tasted different or funny.  After a week, my tongue looked like I had thrush, but it went away shortly after that so I don't know what happened.  I thought it was due to the steriods and asked the dr, he said no, I asked if it was due to MS and he said he never heard of it as a symptom before.

When I looked up the symptom here, many thought it was due to b-12 levels being low.  - But my b-12 is fine.
