Myoclonus getting worse...

But the good news is that it's predictable!

At least I guess it's myoclonus.  Here's what happens.  Sometimes in the mornings, I won't feel very good - sort of off.  I sit on the couch, or go and work/play on the PC, and while I'm sitting there, I'll start to feel very strange.  I used to get this pleasant sensation in the torso, but recently it's just been a buzzy weird feeling.  It'll build and build, until finally WHAM! my torso contracts.  Sometimes my legs and arms will get involved, and my head will snap back or push forward.  I think it must look like a seizure or something to somebody watching me.

Well, when this used to happen, I'd get about one, maybe two a day.  My worst day had seven or eight.  Monday, after not having them for several months, I had five.  Yeah, I know, five is less than seven, but these were more severe.  Each one lasted longer, and one of them was especially weird.  Instead of the buzzy sensation in the torso, it happened around my pelvic region - my entire lower abdomen felt like it was tensing up and pushing out, like a balloon.  And then I wet myself!  Not cool.  What was really strange is my legs felt really weak until that happened, and then they were stronger and more in control.

The rest of the week, my back has been really hurting.  The lower lumbar is in real pain.  Flexaril and Baclofen are keeping things in check, but just barely. Today was the first day I felt more normal, although my legs are weak again.

Monday was right in the middle of my time of the month.  So I guess I can expect something to happen every month - I just hope I don't get the same thing!

I'm wondering if there's a medication I can take for it, if it gets worse.  Fortunately right now it's only at the time of the month, but if I progress I guess it would be happening all the time.

Kelly97 - almost certainly a pseudorelapse because of the PMS.  Which alerts me to the fact that the damage is there, but dormant when my temperature is normal.

i'm pretty sure i had myclonous jerks.  But it has gone away with my treatment.  At first I noticed  it was when i was trying to fall asleep at night starting a few years ago., my abs would have these intense contractions. But It would happen like 5 times a minute the last 10 mins before falling asleep.   Then i sarted getting it in my legs, too.  Then it started happening in the day when i was sitting down. (like on the subway if someone sat beside me i had all these mega twitches).  I couldn't stop it, and it would happen in groups.  Like 5 a minute for maybe off and on all day (whenever i kind of relaxed my muscles)   now I just have a few jerks when falling asleep.

Hi Jen,

So sorry you have to go through this, I honestly can say, I have not experienced that.  The only thing I have felt was the weird twitching muscles on my left shoulder, left thumb and now recently my left pinkie. I also get the buzzing on the same side as the twitches.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I thought my son kicked me so hard that he made my legs fly up to my chest. I wonder if a baby could actually do that, or could it possibly be myoclonus?  Just a thought.

Anyway, I hope you get better,
Pam

Wow, have you discussed this with your neuro?  I wonder if it's happening now since your internal body temperature is probably higher since it's that time of the month?  Too bad the strangeness came back after not having it for several months.

I get more buzzing in that area during that time, too.

That's kinda bizarre, to me anyway.  I have the buzzing - vibrations in my torso and I believe I have been getting spasms in my chest...may be the hug...I dunno.  But never like what you describe.

Have you addressed this with your neuro yet?  I think I would...

Sorry you are experiencing this!  Hope it goes away soon!
