NABs Bloodwork? What Lab?

NABs Bloodwork? What Lab?

Hi folks,

I need your help.  My Dr. sent me a script to check for NABs to interferon beta1a (was on Rebif).  Because I did not want to sit at the labcorp for an hour while they figure what type of tube to put it in, etc. I decided to call.  I'm not getting anywhere w/this with the lab. They've never heard of it, checking the computer etc. Nothing so far.

Quix, JonM, you both were checked? Anyone else? Do you have to go to a special lab for this?

Thanks,
Shell

hey, i used to be a phlebotomist for our BIG hospital system here in oregon so i dealt with alot of different tests, tests that werent as common that needed a bit of research sometimes but it was never too difficult to figure things out.

sooo, with that said, you will want to contact one of the bigger hospital laboratories near you, usually the referral department in the lab,  explain to them what is being order and why, and you are wondering if they could look it up for you. if they cant find the information you can ask them the names and numbers of the "referral labs" that they use so you can contact them yourself.

i can only think of one that we used to send to alot and it was called specialty laboratory. that is a lab in california i think, but labs all over the country send labs to them.

if that isnt helping you, i can try to contact my old supervisor and see if she can find anything.

i hope that helps a little :)

I would call Quest Labs.  They do alot of specialty work on the East coast.  You could call any of their client service centers and they will tell you if they draw it.

Please let us know what happened.

Hi Elaine, Hi Donielle,

Thanks so much for responding.  I am going to look into what you suggest.  I'm not so sure why it's getting ordered at this point.  I was only on Rebif for about 5 months, and the Dr. actually mentioned it was too early at one point to test for this.

As you know, even w/antibodies to the med, it's not rendered useless unless clinically, or through testing there is progression of disease.  That's my take on it.  I'll keep you posted, but think I may end up hanging on to the script for a few until my next visit since.

ttys,
