NOISE HURTS!

Hi Everyone!

I'm back with yet another symptom I forgot to ask about.  This symptom I have had for a while,  but it's getting worse. Loud, sharp noises, like someone closing door, dropping a book on the table talking too loud to me, anyway, when they happen, it sends pain through my body.  my neuro had said that it seems my nervous system is on overdrive.
I have the Lhermittes sign, but I am also noticing that I have the nerve like crawling sensation, that happens on and off all day.
It feels so wierd, I've have had the restless leg syndrome, if any of you have ever had that it almost feels like that in the upper part of my body, on top of getting the sharp nerve pain also.  Very sensitive to bright light (flouresent) lights hurt me, the loud sound makes me want to drop out of my skin, and strong smells.  I also hurts to be touched too hard, poked, even scratching too hard when itchy hurts.  feel bruised all over.  Sometimes feels like bugs crawling all over my head.   I know, some of this sounds crazy, but it's true.   Sandie

Same here loud or unexpected noises make me jump slap out of my skin. Here's a crazy one.   Sensitive or sad commercials or movies sends my skin crawling (very intence).  I've never been like that before.

I've had sensitivity to loud noises for about three months now.  I think they call it hyperacusis.  Last night, I was so tired and wonky from being out in the heat that even the 'tsk' noise my husband made would hurt my ears.  The trash can lid clanging, the dishes clacking together - all that makes me wince.

So you're not alone!  If it gets too bad, cut a cotton ball in half and jam it in your ears.  It's not enough to completely block your hearing, but it'll cut down on the high-pitched stuff.

Doesn't sound crazy to me. Some of those I have had and still have. some noises just send me mind and irritability trhough the roof.  I used to beat myself up over it thinking I was actually going a bit mad. since they have given my a diagnosis of a disease, i now know it is that.

oh well, join the crew

I haven't read about your other sx's, but the light sensitivity and to loud noises are something that a lot of people experience with fibromyalgia. It is considered a ms mimic, as a lot of the sx's are the same. Just thought I would put that in the pot for you to stir.  Good luck in finding out what is wrong with you.

Totally not crazy. Join the club. I've had chronic headaches for a long time. Light doesn't usually bother me, but sound does.  My poor boys. At 8 and 11 that's almost all they know how to do is make noise, but I just can't handle it!

I have restless leg syndrome too, and discovered that it can indeed affect other parts of the body.  My PCP increased my Neurontin when I started having the RLS symptoms elsewhere.

She also tested my ferritin level, which was low.  It seems that people with RLS need to have a somewhat higher level than the average person, and mine was low.  I took supplements for a while, and it helped before long.

Sounds bug me, too; some pain like you described, but also little sounds like people chomping on tortilla chips or chewing gum with there mouth open, etc, is like nails on a chalk board for me at times.

Another vote for not crazy!

Take care,

Kathy

It doesn't sound crazy at all.  I know exactly what you mean.  I get those sensations all the time.
