Natural remedies and diet?

Hi all,
I was just wondering about natural remedies to assuage MS symptoms. I did online research and so far found out that taking Vitamin D (regardless if you have a Vitamin D deficiency or not) is good, and I also read that doing a gluten-free diet is also good. Have any of you tried these and do they work?
Thanks! :)

Welcome to the board nikki.  I think a diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables...preferably home grown without all the insecticides in the best.  If not be sure to wash them well if store bought.  I would rather see fish than meats..(white or red)...I just think it is better for our health.  Too many of us partake in sugar od's daily.  I don't think that is healthy.  I know it isn't a day in our house if my husband doesn't get his cake...lol...He grew up on it and it's a must.  I disagree with him but would never deny it.  His choice.

I agree with vitamin D supplements.  Just make sure not to take more than needed.  I think a daily multi vitamin is smart, too.

Wishing you luck on deciding what your body needs.

Lots of raw fruits and vegetables, high on protein, stay off the fats, and keep up with the vitamin D!

Hi Nikki,

I have been trying to be holistic in dealing with symptoms (possible MS) -was on Rebif for a year, but didn't like side effects and want more proof this is MS I'm dealing with.

I get a monthly massage, take 1000 units Vit D,  exercise as much as I can (used to run distance - but switched over to mostly walking), and follow a heart healthy diet.   I also started take 800 units of samE (natural supplement for mood and other things) - The biggest change I have felt is that I seem to have more energy and my mood seems to be better and more even.

Good question and I think it's always good to work with docs, while looking at complimetary treatments as well - what works for one may not work for another.
BE well.

Hi Nikki and welcome.  The Voice rocks!  Do you have a favorite, yet?  I have some frontrunners but not a clear fav for now.

Sarah is right about the common sense approach.  There have ben a lot of discussions about diet and MS.  Currently there is recruiting for a clinical study that is looking at vegan diet and its impact on MS.  If you're interested I can find the link or you can search it here and pull up the thread.

Got to run or I will be late to a retirement ceremny otherwise I would search for it.

I hope you are settling in here and comfortable with this group - they are truly special.

be well, Lulu

I think that you will find there are many posts on the forum about diet, and you may find it useful to go and look on the button at the top right hand side "search this community" and you could put in diet or vitamin D.

There are mixed views from folks on the forum and generally I think that just eating a healthy diet, low saturated fat, plenty of fruit and veg and not too much red meat is sensible. It is a very personal choice and the best thing is to listen to your body. I do not think alcohol does me any good although I enjoy a drink now and then but when on meds, the liver has to work hard enough each day processing this without the added complication of alcohol.

I am sure that others will give their suggestions.

Best wishes

Sarah
