Need help understanding MRI report

Hi all, I'm hoping someone could help me understand what my MRI findings mean, any and all replies, greatly appreciated!

On FLAIR sequence there is a patchy area of increased signal in the white matter of the occipital lobe, on sagittal FLAIR it shows a maximal measurement of about 15mm.

There are also tiny scatteed focal areas of high signalin the white matter of the frontal and paietallobes, most are only about 1-3mm in size.  20 or so lesions estimated

There is a juxtacortical lesion in the right frontal lobe, measures aboout 7mm..

MS is suspected, 5 oglioclonal bands fround in LP

Any help in understanding this would be greatly appeciated!

The million dollar question for those of us with suspected, possible or prabable MS. I have asked for reviews to this group, posted MRI results and it really will take the expertise of the neuro to figure it all out (even as hard as we try:)).

What lead you to getting an LP and MRI. What type of symptoms have you been experiencing.

I'm sure given these results and your positive LP (not that that necessarily means MS) you are on track for further testing to rule out some more "stuff" and see what indeed is going on.

Please keep us posted!

It is very easy to be confused by MRI reports.  Most of us won't even venture a guess as to what it all means - that is left up to  the pros.

The areas that they reference mean they suspect those are lesions - remember lesions in MS are different than lesions we normally think of.  They are not growths but areas where there is eroded myelin on the neurons.

Your o-bands show that there are ones unique in your spinal fluid that are not present in your blood serum.  That is another marker of possible MS.

When do you see your neurologist again?  I am sure the doctor will be talking to you about all of this- be sure to write out your questions and take someone along with you to help understand/remember the conversation.

If this is MS, please keep in mind that it isn't the end of the world for you.  There are great treatments available that will help most of us continue to live a relatively normal life.  Please come back around and let us know how you are doing and what the doctor has to say.

be well,
Lulu
