Nerve conduction test??

Nerve conduction test??

Is the nerve conduction test the same as the Evoked potential test?  I am new to all of this.
When I went to the Dr. he did something with the safety pin where he pricked my skin from my fingers all the way up my arm, and the same with my toes to upper leg.  I didn't feel the pin ***** until it got to my upper arm and upper leg.  He said he wanted to do a nerve conduction test, but really didn't elaborate on what it was or what to expect.

I have been reading other's posts and have heard of the EP, and wondered if it was the same.

Either way, I just wanted information on what to expect, or what they do.

Thanks and God bless,
Miranda

There are different kinds of Evoked Potential.  I have had a NCV and a VEP (Visual Evoked Potential).  These two tests were nothing alike.  I had the NCV and a EMG together, by doing this my first Neuro wanted to rule out Peripheral Neuropathy.  The first part was the NCV, his nurse actually administered this test.  During this test, put little electrodes under my skin while shocking that area, determining the speed of the nerve signals.  After this test was completed, my Neuro, proceeded with the Electromygraphy (EMG).  During this test, he would stick a needle and ask me to contract or relax a muscle near the site of the the needle.  Honestly these tests were not bad, I hardly felt either one of them.  With the Evoked Potential, I had 16 electrodes placed on my head, and was forced to look at this checkboard television screen.  Each screen was different, but I was to only look at the red dot in the center.  This test was boring, but one of the quickest tests I have had.  But as I have already mentioned there are different EP these are Visual, Brain Auditory, and the Somatosensory.  They all tests different things, which were you wanting to know about?
