Neurologist referrals

Hi,
I am going to start looking for a different neurologist. I live in the San Francisco Bay area. I know there are MS clinics at UCSF and Stanford.

Do you have to have a referral from you PCP to be seen and evaluated by a neurologist at those clinics?

Has anyone been to a doctor at either of those locations and have a recommendation?

Thanks, JT54

Actually, some specialty clinics will not accept self referrals.  And some MS Clinics we have heard about will not accept any referral except those made by neurologists (not even from internists).

So, you best bet would be to call the MS clinics that you are interested in and ask what kind of referrals they need.

Hi.  I don't believe you need a referral, unless your insurance requires it.

Good luck
