Neuropsych testing today

I go to the neuropsychologist in an hour or so.  I'm a little nervous, I'm not entirely sure what to expect, plus I'm not feeling in top form today.  I had really hoped the SoluMedrol would help, and I seemed to feel a little better for a few days, but since yesterday, the TN, headache, dizzy episodes, are back full force.  The TN is actually worse than ever, and I've been adding an extra 100 mg of gabapentin (neuro said this was okay).

I hope it goes okay.  The TN/headache really makes it hard for me to think coherently.  I'm afraid she'll say my IQ is half of what it used to be...

Any advice?  Is this testing pretty straightforward?

You may have already left but as Lu said it is straightforward and just do your best.  The worst I can say about when I had mine was that it is tiring.

Thanks for your quick response.  :-)

I don't take offense--I definitely would *not* not try my hardest!  I have a real fear of losing any cognitive function and hate to "fail" tests, so to speak (I know you can't "fail" a test like this, but I hate to under-perform!) so there's no fear of me not trying hard enough.  I had some problems with concentration, etc.,so I'm not upset with getting a baseline, I guess I just hope the testing doesnt' show any problem.  :)

Anxiety in general isn't a problem for me, so I will try to relax about it.

Why worry?  The test is only meant to evaluate how you're doing today, and that is what is will do.  I've had the testing done, and it can be tiring, but it is straightforward.

You should have the chance in a short interview prior to the testing to explain that you're anxious about the testing and why.  Try your best to relax, though.  I wouldn't want them to think anxiety is a big problem for you if it's not.

And also -- try your best.  They are able to tell if you are making a half-hearted attempt on purpose.  NOT to say you would!  I know you're leaving soon, so I just want to get that out quickly to you and it may sound harsh or accusatory.  I don't mean it to be.  If I had more time to write, I'd explain it better and in a 'kinder, Zilla*' way....

The thing I learned after the testing, though is that they have ways of detecting if someone is not putting in a good effort.  It was quite interesting.  I know you'll do just fine.

PLEASE don't worry.  It's just an evaluation of how you're doing today.  You'll have time to tell them how you're feeling and they should put you at ease.  If you need a break, ask for one.

Good luck and hang tough!
