New twist on my trigeminal neuralgia

New twist on my trigeminal neuralgia

Yesterday my trigeminal neuralgia flared up.  It's been a while, thank heavens!  It's always been on my upper left jaw area; for years I thought it was a dental issue, even had a unnecessary crown put on years ago.

Anyway, this time the pain isn't limited to it's usual area.  It's still on the left side, but it extends up over my forehead.  I have an area on my scalp that is too painful to touch; I had a hard time getting to sleep last night because of it.

I think I remember Quix saying that TN is usually limited to one nerve distribution, rarely more, and the forehead is a different one.  I guess I could be one of those rare cases; wouldn't be the first time, lol.

If so, would that point to a new lesion, do you think?  I already sent my neuro's office about my tremors and being so scatter-brained, with no response yet.  Should I send another with this latest revoltin' development?

My Lyrica and Tegretol have it down to a dull roar, but I'm a little loopy and afraid to eat anything that would aggravate things.  I had lukewarm cream of wheat for breakfast.  I'm signed up to attend a round-table discussion and potluck tonight with my MS support group and a speaker from the local MS Society.  I think I'll go, since my roommate is driving me and attending, too.  I hope she remembers what is discussed.  I guess I could take notes.

Mmmm... cream of wheat...  I always liked it made with milk.

The nerves of the head are coated in myelin, and frequently MS patients have problems with facial symptoms.  Hard to say whether it's a new lesion, or whether the MS is just attacking the trigeminal nerve.

I apparently have a lesion affecting my trigeminal nerve; my neuro-ophtha noted a lesion on my pons, so that might be the culprit.  I just wonder if it's growing or something.  Like, a new attack.

I sent an e-mail to my neuro's office; I'll see if I get a response.

Hi when I got my trigeminal attack Tegretol help to dull the pain but everytime I try to stop taking it the pain returned.  I was in pain for 9 months.  I wish you the best, this symptom is one of the worst.

I thought I saw a lesion on the pons in my MRI, but you know how dangerous that can be, looking at your own MRIs.

Lesions can be dormant for a while, then enhance.  They look like little white rings on the MRI - scar tissue in the middle, fresh damaged tissue on the outside.

The level of the eye upward is the first branch of the Trigeminal Nerve - CN V1.  It is the least commonly affected branch in the nerve, but it does occur (ie.  it's not rare)

Unfortunately I have pain in all three branches on the left side and the third branch (lower jaw) on the right.  I know how you feel.

I'm trying a massage therapist tomorrow.  I figure at the very least they can massage the muscles that are tense from the pain.  I'll let you know how it goes, but I don't have high hopes.

My face shocks often involve the whole schmeer--above the eye, the cheek/nose, and the upper lip--sometimes also the chin--all at the same time. At least on the left side. The right side is more "selective."

Good luck to all suffering pain from this.

My eyebrow and forehead and eye are the part affected.  I don't have MS but I have this trigeminal nerve problem.  I alsoe get  very painful spots on my scalp.  They are very small like someone is sticking a pin into a very distinct spot, and it last for a few seconds then goes.  My eyebrow is the worse trigger point or moving my eye.
