Hey Supermum, you explained it very well. I am a lot clearer about it now.
Well I definately don't get the pins and needles but I think I have the tingling from what you describe. I get numbish right 2 toes that arn't completely numb but could feel like the anesthetics wearing off when you have a tooth injection. I also get this in my bottom lip which actually would be numbish tingling.
The tingling like you said is a softer feeling , maybe thats why its harder for me to describe. The only thing that comes close to the same feeling is when the anesthetic in your mouth is wearing off and it feels numb but itchy and tingling but you cant scratch it or rub the tingles away.
The hitting with a hammer without the pain I can also identify with. I get this in one finger, have done for years. I would never have described it that way but spot on!!!! Thanks for that supermum!!

I have pins & needles or tingling that is different depending on where it is. My thumbs and fingers when they tingle are also numbish, more like that altered feeling when you've hit your thumb with the hammer except i dont get the pain response as you do when the normal feeling comes back, mine just go into that tingle and stay there.
I think of tingling as a lighter or softer feeling and to me its faster than my pins & needles. I tingle on my face, nose tip, and around my eye but i think the eye is due to my skin drying out, my skin is also dry itchy and flaking so i dont think thats the same tingle. Again the tingle i get on my nose tip is like it got numbish too, i cant shake out the tingles or get rid of it from rubbing, i have tried many things and i'm back to ignoring.
The pins and needles are harder, bigger but slow and i suppose there is a low level pain involved, yes its much the same as when the sensation is returning to a restricted limb but most of the time i havent done anything to restrict and its more often than not just a spot on a limb, a weird place. Left side only come to think about it.
I do get the pins and needles everyone has in their feet, again its how it happens is odd and i also get the colour changes too. I dont usually think of it as being abnormal pins and needles because it feels the same as if id sat on them, i'm just not though.
Does odd spot shivers count, i have spots on my arm or leg or even stomach some times that reacts like a cold wind has just blown through. Looks weird to see the hairs standing up on one spot on a limb and not all, not sure i've explained it but it could count as a tingle sort of, its definitely an altered sensation.
Cheers....JJ
OK well i always thought pins and needles or tingling would feel like when you lay on your arm at night and it goes to sleep and you get pins and needles while the feeling comes back.
I have never had this in respect to my symptoms. it seems like not everyone experiences this after hearing what Quix and Jens was saying. Tingling is talked about a lot so I was just wondering if I dont have it did that mean maybe its not MS.
I'm not sure how else tingling would feel other than like pins and needles but i sopose everyones interpretation of what they are feeling could be different.
My burning feels just like that...hot burning like walking on the footpath in bare feet on a really hot day and the footpath is too hot to walk on. It varies in intensity. I also get the cold patches like Jens and have had a buzzing/ vibration inside trunk.

Describe to me what you would call tingling??? I have pins and needles that are painful and burning, and these sensations that feel similar but don't hurt. Are the non painful episodes called tingling??
sorry to put my question on your question, but I don't know how to answer this one

There really is no norm. You have a paresthesia - an altered (in your case "decreased) sensation. You perceive it as you do. It is what it is. I do not think that this has any bearing on whether you have MS or not. Until this last month or so, I never had tingling or pins and needles. Now with our temp down in the teen's, once my right foot gets cold it tingles until the next day, but this is the first. Typically I just have reduced sensation - not gone, just reduced.

I've never had tingling, but I have had buzzing, burning, cold, itching, crawling, and numbness.
