Not sure about this

Well the vertigo keeps coming and going - wish it would just go :). So today I had a thought and decided to check my BP a little while ago. I haven't checked it in months as it has been holding steady at about 122 / 78 with a pulse of 63 to 65.

Well today when I check the BP was still fine ( So it isn't low BP causing the Vertigo) but my pulse was 100. I waited for about 5 minutes and the pulse was still at 93. Normally when I exercize I can just barely get my pulse up to 80.

So can a high pulse rate ( for me) cause vertigo?
Could the pulse be high because of the Vertigo?  ( Worried about the vertigo or something else).
Could this be a signal of a new cardiac problem?  ( I don't have any sx of cardiac problem).

Dennis:

Like you, I am in Limbo Land for almost 8 years now. I've pursued things in fits and starts, so it's possible I could have been dx'd sooner with persistence and good doctors.

Before all of this started, I could bet the house on my blood pressure reading: 110/60. Since then, it has been erratic. Anywhere from my old normal to prehypertensive to hypertensive. In Sept. 2006, I was feeling so lightheaded and disoriented. I also had a slight pain in my left arm, which lasted about 15 minutes but came back an hour later. I called 911 and when the EMT's got here, my BP was 162/129. I was 50 years old and weighed about 110 lbs (underweight). Admitted, but no apparent reason other than possible stress from a Hurculean effort to get my son into boarding school.

My heart beat is now on the high side as well. It used to be in the 60's and now is in the mid 90's without activity.

I couldn't find anything that suggests a high heart beat can cause vertigo; to the contrary most cite a low pulse rate or BP as a cause of fainting or vertigo.

There are also a host of medications that can bring this on, so it might be worthwhile to look at your meds and any possible interactions. Use your pharmacist if you have to...that's part of their job!

Maybe somebody out there can add something here.

Hope things stop spinning in your little part of the world, but let's keep planet Earth spinning. I'd hate to be caught on the cold side!

I high pulse rate could be caused by fever, could you have a fever. I have a subtemperature so my Doctor always checks if my pulse rate is up to see if I may have a fever.

130/74, pulse 74.

125/78 & 77 about an hour ago.

Both checks bought up the arrhythmia icon.  Felt crummy for a day or two, but I think I'm on the upswing.

Hi Dennis!

I'm sorry about the vertigo - I hope it just up and goes too!!

I don't know if this is helpful, because I really don't know a whole lot about heart stuff... but, I've had some trouble with bad drug reactions in the past, where the worst problem is that this drug makes my heart rate shoot up.  When this has happened, I know I've felt totally fine until right about 130 bpm (laying down at rest) - and then I start feeling really lousy.  It never gave me vertigo, though, just made me all nauseous, and made me feel sorta like I might explode!

A 100 resting pulse rate does sound a bit fishy to me.  The only thing I can think of, maybe it could be because of the discomfort of the vertigo?  But I really don't know!  I wish I could be more helpful.

Good luck!  Here's hoping that vertigo really does get gone -

Thanks for all the ideas.

Temp is at my normal 96.1.

Pulse finally came down to 73 about 1 hour ago. But my BP was up to 178 / 92.

Just took it again a minute ago pulse down to 58 and BP 188/98.

Thinking of taking an extra dose of my one BP med to see if it brings down the BP without lowering my pulse even further.

hi i also suffer form horrid vertigo and tinnitus, my pulse also is about 98-100 then it drops to about 60 or so and my bp is usually about 128/78, it is horrid as it feels like im in the twilight zone and trying to explain it to ppl who dont get it is frustrating.

Dennis, I'm sure you know that both BP and pulse can be increased by anxiety, too.  Why, I'd bet that worrying about either one could raise the other!

Whatever the cause, I'm praying that you get it all straightened out.

Well today I  seem to be doing better with BP and pulse, though the Vertigo is still there. I finally got my 4th tire and feel a lot safer driving around now and I think that has help some as I was having a hard time finding tires for my truck.

Today's readings were 122/59 pulse 66. I think that 59 may be the culprit for the vertigo. I also bought  a new BP monitor,. one that I can easily take with me to the doctors to show them my readings.
