Numbness

by smittygirl, Mar 24, 2008 08:46PM
Quick question for those that experience numbness.  I get episodes of numbness on the left side of my neck only, nothing in the face.  Yesterday for the first time, the top of my index finger went completely numb for about 10 min.  Has anyone had either of these 2 things happen?   Thanks.

I get numb patches in my toes and in patches elsewhere.

I don't have anything really useful.  But I guess the docs all had me convinced that if A Symptom didn't last for more than a day or two that I should ignore it as unrelated.  (I am sans DX.)  So I appreciate the post.

I get a lot of numbness, half my throat was numb for a few days , i have numbness in my face, fingers, patches in other areas of my body and toes............also I cannot feel my bladder sometimes and it affects sexual pleasure because that area goes numb.

Numbness is a particularly common symptom with multiple sclerosis. It can often be the first symptom with which a patient presents to a physician subsequently leading to a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

Numbness can affect a very small area such as a small spot on the face or it can affect whole areas of the body, such as legs, feet, hands or arms.

It can be transient, meaning it lasts only for a short time, perhaps an hour or two; or can last for a considerable period of time.

Usually, numbness does not affect day to day activities but in severe cases, it can interfere with a person's ability to function normally. For example, if the numbness is in an entire leg or in both legs, it may hamper mobility.
Numbness can affect any part of the body; including the face, mouth, lips, tongue, the trunk, arms, hands, legs, feet, and also the sexual organs of both males and females.

short course of steroids can sometimes help, particularly in those cases where daily activities are impeded or there is a danger of accidental injury.
