OT -for our friends on the east coast

dear forum friends who are experiencing this wallop of a snow storm this weekend,

Surely you still have Christmas shopping to do, holiday celebrations to attend and all the other activites of life this time of year.  It looks like all of that is on hold for a while, right?

The pictures and news about your record snows are impressive. Your area is certainly not used to getting 24" of snow in a day's time.

Please be smart this weekend and stay home if possible, as the public agencies clear the streets.

Whatever you do, please hire someone to shovel your walkways and driveways.  Do not bundle up and go out and overheat trying to clear pathways in this mess and get overheated.

This is the perfect time to hunker down with a cup of hot cocoa, watch some old movies on tv, relax and enjoy the beauty of the snow.

Sorry if I  sound like your mom  - its because I care about all of you and want you to be safe!

Check in and let us know how you are spending these winter wonderland days.

lots of hugs,
Lulu

PS if you're going outside, please make a snow angel for me!

The DC metro region got about 19 inches.  Looks like home (Chicago) to me!  :-)  I'm loving it, but most people here aren't.  The girls had a blast sledding, building forts, making snow angels, eating the snow...  :)

Been running around trying to keep up with work and the last minute holiday shopping.  (Don't think the kids would believe Santa couldn't make it because of the snow...)

Heading back to the midwest tomorrow.  Hopefully we can miss the next storm that's heading down our path!

The highest snow measurement taken near Charlottesville, VA., where I lived was 28 inches.  I took a measurement in several places and it was 28 inches in all locations.  I really had a very hard time trying to walk through the snow.  I have no boots, so I had snow filled shoes by the time I got back in the house, soaked to the bone, almost up to my thighs.  And I am 5'7" tall with long legs.

It was a beautiful snowfall, but am glad that it's over.  They are calling for rain and ice here on Christmas Day.  Now that will be a mess on top of the snow that is already on the ground.  My biggest worry, is that my pond pump stopped a couple days ago.  I hope I do not lose all my prize Koi's.  Constant circulating water keeps the ponds from freezing.  A new pump will cost us around $600.  A cost that will be hard to swallow this time of year.  When and If we can get through the snow to replace the pump....that is.

Q is so right .... be smart about digging out from the snow and let someone else do it!

Warning to all - One of the most scenarios for a heart attack is the deconditioned person at cardiac risk who shovels snow.

Someone else can shovel.  Hire the neighbor kid!

Stay warm and safe!

We are up to 2 feet now. DH just took a walk outside to take pictures and came back in wet up past his knees.  We measured it and sure enough 23.5 inches.  He came back in completely out of breath, so I agree with not doing any shoveling. This is heavy duty stuff if just walking in it gets you out of breath.

I warned the kids coming in this week to bring warm clothes.

Well, Al wants me to go out with him to make a snowman.  Crazy guy thinks he's still a kid.  Everyone in the path of this NorEaster, stay warm, and stay off the roads in a car that is.

Heather, I just showed DH your pictures and he wants to know if you plan on getting out this winter?  LOL  We got a dusting here and it has almost all melted because the temperature is 34.

stay safe and warm - leave the shoveling to others, please.

I couldn't get out very far in the yard to take pictures, but I posted a few on my profile page, that we taken from the porch.  We stuck a measuring tape in the center of the table on the back porch (pictured) and we came up with 23 inches.

It's still snowing heavily, so I will re-measure in an hour or so.

Remember to stay safe and stay off the streets.  They are hazardous.

Doggie problems do get bad in this weather. Many a time in years past I've dug trenches to make a path to a tree!

My pooch now gets frustrated 'cuz she can't find the right place. This results in too much time outside in the snow and howling wind. Luckily for her, she has a 'custom made fur coat' that keeps her toasy. I just rely on my parka.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Hugs,

Here in Charlottesville, VA., we have 23 inches on the ground now, with an estimated 8-10 hours of snowfall yet to hit the ground.

I tried to shovel a path for the puppy to go potty, but had to give up, since the snow is so heavy.  I am not in great physical shape and it shows.  Thank God for "Puppy Piddle Pads."  She will just have to use them.

I will try to capture some pictures and post them, so you all can see what it looks like here.  It's beautiful.....

What a shock.  I used to live in Anchorage Ak, but this is probably the closest to what I remember about Alaska that I can recall.

I live in the Arlington, VA area very close to DC and we woke up to 7 inches and it is coming down hard.  It is so beautiful.  I am running around trying to find my heavy duty snow boots so Al and I can go take a walk outside like the rest of our neighbors are doing.

As beautiful as it is right now, it might not be so beautiful Monday morning as we all try to navigate through 2 feet of snow. For us in the DC metro area who are not used to this kind of snow, 3 inches can shut down the city.

It will definitely be a white Christmas around here and my kids who are flying in Thurs and Friday are going to love it!!!

Good morning Ess,

There's nothing like a MANDATORY rest stop, is there?  You can do whatever leisurely activity you choose - maybe even take a mid-day nap.

Lots of opportunities for guilty pleasures when you are snowed in!!!!

Yes, I have various odds and ends to do for Christmas, quite a few in fact, but they won't happen today.

We have 5 or 6 inches here in my neighborhood so far, with as much as 20-30 inches overall predicted. Yikes!

The only snow I have to clear is from my car, and no point in even thinking about that now. Meanwhile I'm getting into the spirit with oatmeal and hot chocolate.

How 'bout the rest of you?
