OT, please say a prayer for baby Taylor

I have a favor to ask my friends here.  My best buddy's grandson was born this morning.  He is a month early.  They moved the baby to another hospital and he is in NICU.  They said there was no brain activity when he was born.  We haven't heard anything yet and don't want to intrude.  The baby's grandparents are at the other end of the country so the baby's mother is without her mother...if it were me I would want my mother to help me through this.   Please say a prayer for the baby and his mother.  I think they are going to need all the help they can get.  Thank you.

Rena

I guess it's not just neuros who can be incompetent.

What wonderful news!!! I am rejoicing with you all!

I am just curious....why would they have said he had no brain activity when he was born?

Well I have to THANK all of you for your prayers!!!  They worked!!!

Baby Taylor now has a first name...Paul...and he is off the ventilator and he was brought back to our local hospital and despite still having the feeding tube, he is sucking and crying and what a set of lungs it turns out he has!!!

I was at the hospital with his Mom today when they told us he would be coming back and we were soooo excited...Mommy hadn't even had a chance to HOLD her new child!

I guess they had a newbie in the delivery room and the OB/GYN said to the newbie, "here, you take over and do your first delivery".   So they broke her water and only a little fluid came out and then they told her to push and when she did the fluid literally exploded from Mom and out  came baby a few seconds later.  The newbie grabbed the baby and sat him upright to take him to the table and he wasn't breathing.  We are thinking that the fluid got into his lungs and such and the OB/GYN then grabbed the baby and suctioned him and started working on him furiously.  They took the baby away and Mom didn't hear a thing for 4 hours and then they told her he was going to the other hospital!  Then they told her that it was touch and go and they would keep her updated but if she got a call from the other hospital it was probably not going to be good news...what a thing to say cause when they called to let us know he was being brought back it was really scary!  Stupid hospitals!

So Mommy and Baby and doing pretty darn good considering and your prayers certainly didn't hurt!  Mommy's Mom is coming home tomorrow so the stress will be off me...the surrogate Mom to many.  I love being a surrogate Mom though...I don't have to go through child birth and I only have the occasional diaper!  ha ha\

Well thank you again for all your prayers and kind wishes and I will post a photo of the new little man as soon as I can!

Lots of thankful hugs,
Rena

Just to say that I shall keep this family in my prayers and hope that God gives them the strength to cope with what is ahead.  I shall also pray for you as I am sure that this is also a shock as it is your best friend who is coping with this and in a very difficult position not being able to be near. I am sure that you feel very helpless but you have reached out to others for support for your friend and her daughter and this is what a real, genuine loving friend does in times of trouble.

With love

Sending all the prayers I have in me.  I understand what it's like to be in that position-my twin boys were born 8 weeks early, we heard nothing from the NICU for several hours and I didn't even get to see them until many hours later.  But, thanks to the efforts and expertise of many members of the NICU staff, we were able to take our boys home 18 days later(YES, just 18 days!!!).

Our journey with the fourth and fifth members of our family began 11/28/2005, and my healthy boys just celebrated their fifth birthdays 2 weeks ago!!  The only problem we have seen persist is speech- their speech pathologist from when they were 2 decided that they were having such problems because their brains were at the level of a 5-6 year old and their mouths were still just 2!!  They were so smart that they relied on truncating every word into a sort of "verbal shorthand" in order to get out all the observations they were making!!  Unreal!!

I hope your friends have the same combination of good fortune, excellent care and guardian angels that we were blessed with five years ago.

Be well!

Jen
