OT has anyone ever had a HIDA Scan?

I get to have this test called a HIDA Scan next week for my gallbladder. I have read scientific stuff on it. Just wondering if anyone had had such a test.

Hi Alex,

I've had one, too, though I don't remember what they called it.  I meditated while lying there, and it was no big deal, even though my back hurt some.  When it got to the point where the dye was clearing my gall bladder, I had painful spasms, though there was no apparent reason for them.  My gall bladder apparently is in great shape.  I've had pain in that area for years; maybe mine is just one of those weird MS neuropathy things.

So, mine hurt and I didn't have to have my gall bladder out.

Best of luck,

Kathy

Alex,
I had one back in 04, it was not bad, I did get pretty nauseous for a few minutes but then it was over...they then removed my gallbladder, my ejection fraction was so low it might as well been out, plus I was having a lot of pain..good luck

I have had the HIDA scan.  It is as been described for me as well.  You lay on the table, for me, I had to put my arms up next to my head.  They inject the dye and you lay there while they watch you gall bladder. I think I did get a bit nauseous, but don't recall it as being to bad.

Good luck,
Michelle

The doctor said they inject something else along with the dye to bring on an attack? She said if it hurts then we know the gallbladder has to come out? The stuff I have read is it is nauseating.

I've had a HIDA scan. It's just like LoveMY Bostons described. I really had no discomfort other than laying still on a hard table.

A friend of mine and one of DH's friends both said that the med injected caused the gall bladder to contract and reproduced their symptoms of pain and nausea.

At least it will rule in or out the GB as the culprit of your pain.

Hmmm.  They dx'd my gall bladder with ordinary ultrasound.  Never hearda HIDA.

I was never so glad to get rid of a part of myself.  Thought I would die with the last couple of attacks.  Actually with the last one, I believed I was dying.  Surgeon who took it out said it looked like a beanbag.  Dad, on the other hand, had only a few stones, but his were the size of golf balls.  I was too young to remember any detail about Mom's, if they shared that sort of thing with us back then.  All three sisters have been through it, but neither brother -- yet.  The four of us report no digestive trouble to speak of since the events in question.  Brothers, on the other hand...

I had a nuclear kidney scan back in the mid 1980's.  It was kinda neat to see all those little green dots on the screen collect together to form the outlines of my kidneys.  Then they gave me a shot of Lasix to light up my bladder.  Whew.

Yes, I had one about 10 years ago. It is no big deal. You just have to lie very still on your back while they inject the dye and take scans. For me, my gallbladder symptom was back pain so it was very difficult for me to lie on my back for that long. I hope that your symptoms are presenting differently!

Yep. I had one during my post-cardiac event process when the doctor thought my chest discomfort was perhaps GI related.

Do you like to be still for a while?  If so it is no big deal.  They inject you with nuclear dye and trace how long it takes for it to transit your gallbladder.

The verdict for me is I have SLUDGE in my gallbladder.  That is an honest to goodness real medical DX - sludge.
