OT: what causes an abscessed tooth?

by Fluffysmom, Jul 05, 2009 04:11PM
Hi, all.

I called my dentist last week about a molar that is sensitive on my upper right side, so I have an appt. for tomorrow afternoon.

This morning I decided to try to take a look at it with a flashlight.  I pushed on the upper left side where I thought there was lingering pain from my TN flare in May, and it really hurt.  I checked it out, and there is an abscess above one of the teeth toward the front of my mouth; the TN was more to the back.

Anyway, what causes such a thing?  I brush and floss religiously, use a soft toothbrush, take good care of my teeth.  Could some bacteria have gotten pushed up there during my May 11 teeth cleaning, or is it another doggone need for a root canal?

At least it just aches a little, doesn't hurt real bad, though it aches all the way up to my nose.  Uh oh.

Wish me well!

Kathy
