OT...Barium test for bowel cancer tomorrow :(

Hi there...just wanted to pop in and let you know that my Mammogram came back abnormal so they did an ultrasound and found that the lump I was concerned about it merely a blob of fatty tissue which is a HUGE relief!

I am fasting now for my test tomorrow.  I have to fast for 48 hours prior to the barium enema test.  I am worried, yes, but one step at a time.  I have been having cramps similar to menstrual cramps since about the first of August and since my pelvic/abdominal ultrasound came back normal my doc is checking for bowel cancer.  I don't want to share tooo much but if I am not constipated I have diarrhea and don't remember my last "normal" movement.  I have had trouble with diarrhea most of my adult life but the constipation is something very new to me.

So, I have to take Milk of Magnesia at 4:00, drink a bottle of Magnesium citrate (ewwwww) at 5:00 and then take two Dulcolax tabs at 7:00.  My Mom figures I am going to have a busy evening but I don't think it will be too bad because the "flu bug" I have suffered from for the last few weeks hasn't allowed me to eat much anyway.,

I guess then I will have to wait till next week to find out the results...hopefully I won't hear from the doc cause that means they found something.  I cannot tell a lie...I am worried.  If this test shows up normal though I wonder what else the pelvic pain could be but I am not imagining it...it is horrible  I will let you know if anything is found but the doc is doubtful about bowel cancer because of my age...but I wonder what the h*ll else it could be!

Hugs.

They should just go ahead and do a colonscopy if you are going to go through the awful bowel prep because it is the most comprehensive test!  Drink water with it (did they tell you that?) it makes it less painful (cramp wise) and you get cleaned out faster.  Also get some baby wipes or moist toilet paper.

I've done a few bowel tests, and was diagnosed with IBS about 8 years ago. Recently I I had to do one in the hospital because I've had blood in my stool.  Test came back normal! But mine was lilely caused by my low platelets and anemia, I was having nosebleeds too!

I hope your test is normal too! no cancer or any bad stuff!

Rena,

I'm so sorry you had to go through that! At least it's done and over with now. Try to relax through the next few days as much as possible and don't stress too much over what may or may not show up with the test results. Quix had a very good point about MS causing her pelvic pain. Also, congrats on the good results from your mammogram!

Hope you are feeling much better by now!

Well it's about 1:30a.m. here and I am just getting myself together from that test that is straight from h*ll.  I will NEVER go through that again.  The pain was terrible and the nausea worse.  Then they wanted to tip me up so I was standing and as soon as the bed started to tilt I heard the doc ask if I was going to faint and the black curtain came down.  I came to about 3 minutes later and still had to endure the worst of it...laying on my stomach.  I have to agree with summerluvr that if needed I will be sure to do a colonoscopy instead.  The doctor will get the results on Monday or Tuesday and then I will let you know the results.
I want to thank all of you for the nice wishes and prayers, I do appreciate your kindness very much.

Lots of washed out hugs,
Rena

It's not cancer.  I have pelvic pain that occurs at the same time as my perineal pain.  Mine, I'm sure is the MS.

Good luck.

Just to wish you luck, love and support. Having a a barium enema sounds horrible but I guess you just want and need some answers and once again it is a matter of elimination.
Try and stay positive and I hope that it is good news.

With love and more hugs
