One month of using Acupuncture for spasms.

by Guitar_grrrl, Feb 05, 2009 01:33PM
Hi, all, from here in Limboland.  I've been doing weekly Acupuncture, now, to see if it maybe relieves the intensity of my leg spasms.  This is a combo of Acupuncture and Chinese herbs (don't worry, it's not anything like dessicated worm casings, LOL).  My leg spasms definitely became less intense.  Until last night.  Maybe I just had a bad night...Anyway, so far it has done nothing for paresthesias and the constant buzz I feel from the waist down.  But it's nice not to have so many intense spasms.  So I guess my verdict is - Equivocal.

I see my neuro in early April, and I'm going to push for a repeat 3T MRI with double dose Gd and waiting at least 5 minutes before imaging after administration and probably a lumbar puncture as well.

Ciao,

One of our fibromyalgia members was just discussing how acupuncture has helped her with her symptoms. I commented about how the military recently started doing acupuncture and some of the amazing results they've had. Here's the link to the MedHelp discussion:

Hey Gurl,

Have we met? I'm sorry if I've missed you, and I'm also sorry if I'm not remembering...lol...
Regarless, hello G-Gurl, I'm Shelly, and was dx'd in 07 w/MS.

Last year at a newly dx'd seminar they acutally brought up the acupuncture, however they did not discuss the specifics of how it works on the spasms. I'm glad to  hear you got some relief from it.  I think my parathesias is here to stay too, durrnit.  It has been worse though, so I won't complain.

Questions for you  - after going, do you think the acupuncturist knows about the various diseases, and they adjust their puncture places? Just curious.  I would think they would have to know, like PTs do, but would like to know if you have thoughts or insight.

Also, I've only read a little about the extra Gd, and how some imaging required it.  Your Dr. willing to order this up like this? Do tell.

See you around,
shell
