Optic Neuritis- can it cause a loss in color vision?

First i saw halos (normal), then it went blurry then BROWN! The colors left! This thankfully didn't last long, but this is so strange- my eye hurt so bad today and things were blurry like it is often, and when the colors left I kinda thought I was losing it and began blinking like everything!

My eye Dr. told me just a week ago that i have O.N. but he didn't explain what it is, what it does or if or when it goes away. Is this NORMAL for optic neuritis? My sight is worse than it was three weeks ago- will it improve?

On friday my opthamologist seemed concerned and had MRI's done and got me in to a new neurologist this Wed. It's all happening really fast, both the sypmtoms and the doctors who are working together. I just hope this next doctor listens AND explains things!

Sunnytoday,
While none of us really know what is going on  with your eye, I can tell you that my son (dx MS) first noticed that colors were not right with his eye.  Red and green, especially, were faded.  He knew something was not right and went right to the doc.
He was not diagnosed with MS until he became numb in his legs about two months after the eye problem.
It is possible to have Optic Neuritis in isolation.
Good luck to you, and I hope that you are just having an isolated symptom.

Colors definitely get washed out with ON.  I had a loss of red in my left eye, that still shows up with fatigue.

My neuro and opthalmologist think that I had Retoubular Neuritis at the onset two years ago. Retoubular neuritis is still ON but it occurs farther back on the optic nerve behind the eyes toward the brain. I did not get steriod or any other treatment ,because it was too late, once they finally figured out after the visual field defect showed up, that I wasn't making it up. So I have healed up naturally and very very very slowly and still do not have it all back yet!

I went through every single symptom of ON and the loss of color vision lasted for me with no medication for about two months. Everything went black and white, kind of like I was watching a black and white TV. It did come back slowly, but the color richness is now different in each eye. I mean one eye sees colors brighter than the other one.
