Optic neuritis without pain

Hi, it has been awhile since I have posted!  Hi to all!  I am still listed as Probable MS.  Really haven't pursued it.
The question I have is about optic neuritis. I have had it once before. That time I woke up with terrible pain in that eye with blurry vision. The pain subsided in a couple of days. The vision cleared in a couple of weeks. No much difference in the appeared color vision.
Yesterday I was out on our patio and I noticed a little blurry vision.  I closed one eye and then the other and could see a definate difference in the "pinkness" in my skin. One eye saw a pale skin. The other a very pink color. This was in the daylight. I went inside where it Is darker and noticed no difference of color in either eye.
This morning it is the same. I do have a slght achey head but no pain.
Do any of you think this could be another attack of optic neuritis?
Cyn

Hi,

I have had optic neuritis 3 times this year.

1st time: Very sudden blurred vision. As if there was a film over everything when trying to look through the right eye but no pain. I then started to get headaches which got so bad I started vomitting. Then tremors.... then A&E....... then MRI........then "probable MS". Of note when examined red and green saturation was dimmed.

2nd time: Occurred 5-6 weeks later in left eye same thing a film and RAPD which was only discovered on follow up in opthalmology clinic making this a definte MS diagnosis.

3rd time: Peripheral visual loss in right eye and extreme pain on movement.

From my own experience optic neurits can be painful/not, visual loss can be severe/not.... But signs to look for are color saturation (i.e difficulty with ishihara test) and a degree of RAPD.

I have also noted that each time optic neurits has visited me it has presented differently and the severity of it has been different as has the extent of recovery but for me the only thing I can say I noted in all 3 cases was that it peaked at approx 1 week.

Give yourself a few more days and watch to see if symptoms get any worse. Maybe then contact your GP or neurologist if you are still symptomatic or concerned.

Good Luck,

Sharon

Thanks for the response. I will give it the weekend to see what's up. Maybe it will be mild enough to go away quickly without developing that horrible pain!  Today is my hubby's BDay so I wouldn't want to be gripey!  It's his day!  Lol
thanks again!  Hope all is well :)

Hi, Cyn. Welcome back!

I think it's a bit too early to know what's happening to you. I suggest you stay aware of your vision for a few days and see whether the symptoms become more notable. Also continue to note what the lighting and other conditions are when you see these sublte differences.

Yes, ON can definitely happen without pain. I'd give it a while to learn whether anything further happens, and after that, see the ophthalmologist.

Please let us know how you do.
