Our puppy is having emergency surgery today

I saw some posts on dogs so if any of you could say a prayer for our puppy I would appreciate it.  We woke up today to her vomiting.  The vet did abdominal x-rays and she has two rocks stuck in her intestines.  One is 2 inches by 2 inches and one is about half that size.   The vet said there is no other option and if I wanted a second opinion on a Saturday I would have to go to an animal hospital and it would cost double her charges.

The surgery is going to cost two thousand dollars!!!!!  The vet hospital would be about four thousand.  I did call them from the office.

So Craig is losing his mind today.  First, our kids said that if we got a puppy it may end up sick like their dad...and now the poor thing needs an operation.  And of course with Craig fighting to keep working. a two thousand dollar vet bill adds to his worry.

But Sadie is a member of our family and we love her....so she is having surgery now.  We have been trying to get her to stop eating rocks but we obviously had two slip by us.

So if any of you don't mind praying for a 10 month old puppy, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Elaine

I hope Sadie has a lightening speed recovery.  When she is well you might try putting some rocks sprinkled with a lot of cayenne pepper someplace where she would be tempted.  She probably would never touch another rock.

Oh my! I have heard dogs can swallow odd things.  I would think a stick would hurt going down!

I hope every thing goes ok for your puppy.  OUch on that bill!!

Hi Elaine and Craig!

Sadie is a bloodhound, she will be 19 mos old the 30th of this month.  She is really spoiled rotten, and I believe she owns us, not the other way around.

I have pictures posted of her on my Medhelp page.

Thanks doni.  Our Sadie is a goldendoodle and golden lab mix.  What kind of dog is your Sadie?

Hi,

I have a Sadie too, and she is part of my family.  I just saw your post where she came through the surgery and is doing good.

I wasn't around to pray for her surgery, but I'll start praying for her full and fast recovery.

You and Craig take care of yourselves and give Sadie a big hug from me and my Sadie when you pick her up on Monday.

Oh, my Sadie said to tell your Sadie that she likes rocks too, but luckily momma has always caught her before she had a chance to swallow any.  It was not from lack of trying though.

Lots of Hugs

Sadie,

My oh my , what have you been up to . your family is so worried about you . Playing with rocks is not allowed . Could I suggest a nice tennis ball or a gooey chewy in the future. Craig and Elaine have enough going on , so you swallowing the backyard landscaping is just not an option .

I know your surgery will be a breeze and you will be up and romping with the kids in no time .  Tell your Mommy and Dad hello for me .  You are all in my prayers.

My and Tazz's (Chihuahua) prayers go out to you and your family. I know how scared and worried you and your kids are at this time. It hopefully is over by now, and Sadie is on her way to a full recovery. Know thought we are all thinking of you in this awful time.

They say, it doesn't rain, but it pours and that sure seems to be the case in your lives right now doesn't it?

I am sure that the puppy will be fine under the care of the veterinarians but I don't envy you the wait and the worry...something that Craig definitely doesn't need on top of everything else.  I am so sorry to see that this has happened to your family but puppies are wont to do whatever they please and they do have a lot of learning to do and bumps to overcome on the way.  Please know that I am thinking of your family member today and you might want to consider a muzzle training collar for a while.  This keeps the dog from opening his mouth wide enough to eat rocks and such and should help to change your puppies diet for the better!

Please let us know how the little fella makes out ok?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Hi all....I don't have any pets, but I do have a soft spot for all God's creatures. We have just asked St. Francis to ease Sadie's surgery and that all will work out just fine.

Best wishes to you and the children!

I understand you must be worried sick.  I completely understand about your puppy being part of your family.  When one of ours was sick (with an autoimmune disease, go figure) the vet did not intially lay out all the options because he assumed we wouldn't be willing to pay.  There is no price too high; you know you are going to do whatever is available to help them.

I'm thinking of you and your pup, and hopeful for the best possible outcome.

My thoughts and best wishes are with Sadie and the rest of your family today.

Pets are, IMO, just as valued a member of the family as anyone else. Sadie is lucky to be member of such caring family.

I hope she pulls through OK, and that you have many more years with her.

I am so sorry that has happened to Sadie.  I don't know what dogs think when they do that but I have seen it several times.  A rock should be fairly easy for the vet to remove and Sadie should be feeling like herself in no time.  I will be thinking of your sweet Sadie all day, Elaine and sending her some puppy kisses.

Love Ya,

Ada
