I sure feel lewery self centered and continue to say this, but this post couldn't have been more relavent to me than it is right now.
I am beginning 5 days of Prednisone I'V treatments on Monday. My neuro believes it gets to the brain and l cord quicker than the pills and is much moe effective. I was on the pills fo 5 days a few months ago. No negative reactions, but not much positive results either. I was an Prednisone I'V for 1 month, 30 years ago when I was hospitalized for Accute Dyseminated
Enceoholamyalitis (ADEM) I was honestly too out of it to remember ianyting about that month at all but my hubby said I tolerated the steroids very well. I asked him if I gained any weight from a full month of steroids and with his dry sense of humor he said no, I still fit in the hospital gown just fine! LOL
I hope things go better for you on your treatment
Feel better!
Deb
for my Cancer treatment, I took large doses of pulsed steroids for months (4 days on, 4 days off for three weeks, then a week rest period)
my side effects included similar stuff that you are describing, headaches, racing pulse, palpitations, sweats, muscle ahces (especially the "large muscles like legs and thighs), blurry vision, stomach upset, but also at the same time a horrible sweet tooth which did not help the weight issues steroids cause lol). I also had the rosy complexion, but in my case every said I looked "healthy" since at the I had anemia and was usually very pale.
My round of oral steroids this summer for 5 days was wicked. It left me wired, heart racing, very tired, serious problems with my GERDS and probably other things I am, forgetting to mention. I did mine without a taper, which I won't do again. My MS doc says the efficacy of oral is the same as the IVSM, so it was my choice which way to go. I didn't want to lose time sitting in an infusion center or being hooked up at home, so I chose the pill form.
Everyone reacts differently to the steroids, and all I can say is it will pass. Eventually.
feel better,
Laura
Thank you Jen for responding!! I really appreciate that. Thins have been really crazy with my health but also life in general. We had a church member pass away and it's taking a toll as well. I haven't called the doctor as I had planned to but will certainly do that today to let them know what's happening.
Did you have any other reactions with prednisone. Maybe I should post a question about prednisone reactions to see who has had what.
Thanks again and many blessings!
Stacie
I had bad reactions to pred too.... I would get the headaches as well... I have told my doctors I won't do the pills again, but they have told me that going the IV route reduces the side effects quite a bit. I had not yet had the IV 3 days series, someone else can comment if it is a better route.
Have you called your doctor to make them aware of the extent of the reactions?
I hope you are feeling better and I hope someone here can give you an answer if the severity of your reaction is more worrisome then just how much pred ***** to take...
