It's a pity my cat couldn't have filled me in on what I was in for LOL. Can now hardly see out of my right eye so looks like yet another trip to the ER coming up.
My Service Dog knows when I am getting sick before I do. She knows when I am having diaphragm spasms hours before I do. They do smell thing our bodies give off.

"Now my balance is way off he's got the good sense to stay well away from my spaghetti legs thank goodness. "
I wish he would share this knowledge with Franklin, my cat who suffers from terminal underfoot's disease :-)

My cat who is no longer with us, would practically do the same thing........ love me to death before and during, then go back to ignoring me again when i came good. She was so consistent with her change in behaviour, that i did suspect she knew what was going on.
Hobo my golden retriever lab is the same, he wont leave my side for a second, it's like he desperately needs to be close to keep me safe, he definitely watches over me more when i'm not doing well. I think animals do know when something isn't right, a friends big boxer has always been very gentle around me, and he's very boisterous by nature with everyone else.
I don't think we smell per say :D but i do think animals are tuned into different senses than humans. If you think about how they instinctively sense danger etc, it could be sort of the same thing but triggering their protective instinct of an injured pack/litter member lol someone will know exactly why it is lol i'm sure i don't smell er well i hope i don't ROFL
Cheers..........JJ
Yes the cat's behaviour did start before I had any inkling I was in for another bout of being unwell. He was all over me and would have licked my face had I allowed it, utterly gross.
Now my balance is way off he's got the good sense to stay well away from my spaghetti legs thank goodness.
I wonder whether it's a smell we give off as I do know a woman who can always smell a particular scent when her husband is about to have a relapse of different neuro disease to MS.
I have read that animals in general can often sense physical disturbances in the people they are around day to day before their human starts showing outward symptoms. Did your cat's different behavior start right before the onset of your illness? For instance, dogs can be trained to sense a seizure episode and alert their humans a seizure is coming on. I think our pets are able to discern much more than humans can. Call me crazy about this suggestion but stranger things have happened. Just a thought...
